🖤❤️💚 Happy Juneteenth from the ODU Black Alumni Chapter 💚❤️🖤
Today, we commemorate Juneteenth—the day that marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States and celebrates the enduring strength, resilience, and contributions of Black communities.
As Monarchs, we honor the generations who paved the way through courage, perseverance, and a commitment to progress. Juneteenth is a time to reflect on our history, celebrate our culture, and reaffirm our dedication to education, service, leadership, and community.
The ODU Black Alumni Chapter proudly celebrates the achievements of Black alumni, students, faculty, staff, and supporters who continue to make a lasting impact on Old Dominion University and beyond.
Let us use this day to learn, reflect, celebrate, and continue building a brighter future together.
Happy Juneteenth!

On June 6, The ODU Black Alumni Chapter was honored to join "Teens With a Purpose" for the Together We Bloom event at Purpose Park in Norfolk, VA for another serve day opportunity. This inspiring community festival brought together art, music, wellness, culture, youth leadership, local vendors, and community resources to celebrate connection, empowerment, and positive change.
The event also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of promoting peace, healing, safety, and community wellness. Our members enjoyed engaging with community partners, supporting youth-driven initiatives, and celebrating the vibrant spirit of Norfolk.
Thank you to Teens With a Purpose for creating a space where our community can come together, grow, and bloom. We are proud to support initiatives that uplift future leaders and strengthen the communities we serve. Thank you Alexis for leading yesterday!

The Old Dominion University Black Alumni Chapter mourns the passing of fellow Monarch, Dawann Steagall Jr., Class of 2021.
Dawann’s journey was marked by resilience, determination, and strength as he courageously battled cancer. As an ODU graduate, he represented the spirit of perseverance that defines our Monarch community. His impact, presence, and the relationships he built during his time at Old Dominion University will not be forgotten.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, classmates, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. During this difficult time, we join together to honor his life, celebrate his accomplishments, and cherish the memories he leaves behind.
May we continue to carry forward the kindness, strength, and legacy that Dawann shared with those around him.
Rest in peace, Monarch. Your light and legacy will forever remain a part of the ODU family.
