HOW TO WRITE OFF YOUR NEXT TRAILER PURCHASE BEFORE 2025 ENDS

If you're thinking about buying a new or used trailer before the year ends, Section 179 might be the best reason to pull the trigger now. This IRS tax code lets you deduct up to $2.5 million in qualifying business equipment, like trailers, this year. That means more money back in your pocket now, not over the next few years. In 2024, the Section 179 deduction cap is $1.25 million with a phase-out beginning at $3.15 million, while in 2025 the cap doubles to $2.5 million and the phase-out threshold increases to $4 million.

You can even finance your trailer and still take the full deduction this year. One example is a $10,000 trailer purchase could save you $3,000 in taxes if you're in the 30% bracket. That drops your net cost to $7,000. It’s a smart move if you’re planning to upgrade equipment, add trailers to your fleet, or get ahead on 2026 needs.
