Watercolors Codey Lee James' Sophomore album, Watercolors, arrives in the spring of 2026.
I'm excited to debut the official lyric video for Watercolors (On the Way), the titular track to my latest album, Watercolors.
This song explores what it means to be an artist at a time when AI threatens to steal our art from us. It also dives into what it means to be human during a time when those in power threaten to steal our humanity from us.
I'm extremely proud of this track and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.

Codey Lee James presents Watercolors, an eight-track album rooted in chill r&b, neo soul and alternative r&b, where groove and introspection coexist. Self-produced and recorded in the United States, the project leans into live bass, electric guitar, Hammond organ and subtle horn textures, creating an organic, warm soundscape. Focus track “Watercolors (On the Way)” captures the album’s core theme: love and loyalty in a world shaped by uncertainty, pairing poetic reflection with steady, laid-back rhythm.
Following earlier singles including “Smoking Alone,” “Thrifted Sweater,” “Glisten” and “Like a Fine Wine,” Codey Lee James expands his sonic identity with a full-length statement that reflects his Sage archetype and poetic voice. From confessional lyrics to groove-driven arrangements, Watercolors continues his path as an independent, self-produced artist blending emotional honesty with technical depth.
