Dennis Rodman will be inducted tonight into the WWE Hall of Fame. His work with the NWO in 1997 and 1998 was the perfect melding of pro wrestling and mainstream celebrity. Rodman was the bad boy of basketball, joining up with anti-heroes Hollywood Hogan, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall.

Rodman missing a practice during the 1998 NBA Finals the day after being on WCW Nitro is the thing most people remember about his time in wrestling. Fewer people remember the NBA Finals game where Rodman and Karl Malone, his then-future wrestling opponent, engaged in what can only be described as a wrestling angle, pushing and shoving each other with both sprawling on the floor.

For Say Hello to the Bad Guys, I was able to chat with Rodman’s basketball agent Dwight Manley, who plainly said the wrestling storyline bled over onto the basketball court in the Finals.
