The hardest part of music production for me is the mixing phase. After releasing “Heaven Or Hell For Her” and “Run”, receiving some valuable feedback from playlist curators, and listening to the loudness and balances vs other songs on internet radio and streaming services, I decided to do some room measurements and found out my room has some problems with acoustics that the current bass traps and sound treatment are not tuned for. One major issue was my listening position was directly in the center of a low mid frequency cancellation and I had to rearrange the room to fix that. Now the @ 32 hz range and 3khz range have peaks. The high frequencies are easily treatable with diffusion, but the lows are requiring some construction work….Helmholtz resonators. Four of them tuned in sequence to actively absorb 29’ long sound waves and make the room where what’s is heard in it is literally what is coming from the speakers. Between a flooded market, AI likely taking a large portion of it, and the incredible amount of endurance to make this “teenage dream” manifest, I’ve questioned my own judgement many times…like swimming to the middle of a lake and what now?? Progress motivates though. I’ll get there.

NEW MUSIC Femi x Dave Todd – ‘Who U Goin’ Home To’ ‘Who U Goin’ Home To’ is more than a flirtatious pop-country moment — it’s a statement of direction. With an EP, 2020, on the horizon and a full-lengt…

After submitting the latest pre-release "Run", scheduled for 11/28/25, to multiple playlists for consideration, I've come to several valuable insights:
1. Playlist Curators are the best way to gain perspective on your work if you request criticism.
2. This criticism is valuable, especially if you haven't found an ideal "sound" or genre to commit to and develop.
3. People's reactions to music are incredibly unique. Aspects one critic appreciates, are perceived as a drawback by another.
4. This feedback is formulated with consideration for the playlist creators' audience, who choose to play that playlist to fill an emotional need.
5. Being appreciative of every classification of music out there makes settling in on one specific genre a real challenge, and blending folky fingerpicking with outlaw country style storytelling lyrics over a hip hop style beat with electronic soundscapes is not a genre that exists...(yet).
Conclusion: In the words of the great John McDaniel, "Press-On"

Thank you to everyone who has just started following the Split Refraction page!
After pretty much isolating from everything but work and school in my little studio room for over three years, I’m just now beginning to put this college knowledge to work. It’s a gratifying feeling to make what was a pipe dream 35 years ago finally start to manifest.
The first song, “Heaven Or Hell For Her,” is an inspired story... one I think we’ve all been touched by in some way.
I hope you’ll find my music serves as a form of therapy; a safe way to feel and express sentiment. Many of the songs in production explore raw, complex emotions—some from personal experiences and some from observing what others have gone through.
I'm just getting started and I'm grateful you're here for the journey. Thank you for the support.🙏 ~Nathan
