There are now more air fryers than coffee makers in U.S. homes — and that has big implications for pork.
With GLP-1s, a culture of convenience and changing meal habits reshaping demand, the U.S. pork industry has an opportunity to rethink pork cuts, refresh the meat case and create flavorful, convenient, globally inspired options.
At the 2026 World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa, Mark Hulsebus, general manager of Alltech’s U.S. Pork team, and Lori Stevermer, customer success manager for Alltech’s U.S. Pork team, were joined by National Pork Board leaders David Newman, CEO; Neal Hull, director of domestic market development; and Sarah Showalter, director of consumer and business insights, for a live discussion and carcass fabrication focused on the future of pork.

As feed production trends show growth as well as volatility, success will depend on resilience, adaptability and data-driven decisions.
Top feed producers are adopting these strategies to stay ahead of the curve.
1) Top producers invest in risk management before it’s too late:
∙ Nutritional solutions and biosecurity that support gut health and immunity
∙ Mycotoxin mitigation and ingredient variability strategies
∙ Data-driven tools to anticipate and respond to challenges
2) Leaders don’t sacrifice performance — they build feed strategies that adapt:
∙ Flexible ration formulations that help reduce dependence on specific inputs
∙ Nutritional technologies that improve efficiency and protein utilization
∙ Close performance monitoring, ensuring consistency during periods of change
3) Trailblazers use data and technology to improve efficiency and resilience:
∙ Artificial intelligence can model performance outcomes under different feeding and management scenarios
∙ Monitor feed intake, growth performance and feed conversion in real time
∙ Detect early indicators of disease or stress

Global dairy feed production continued to grow in 2025, but the drivers of that growth are changing.
According to the 2026 Alltech Agri-Food Outlook, global dairy feed tonnage increased 2.6% in 2025, reaching 170.294 million metric tons.
Established export regions, including Europe and Oceania, continue to face structural limits to expansion — from weather variability and labor shortages to water constraints and tightening regulatory frameworks.
At the same time, parts of Asia and Africa are gaining momentum, supported by commercialization, rising demand and continued investment in more productive dairy systems.
The outlook also points to improving farm-level margins in many regions, driven by elevated milk prices and easing input costs. In advanced dairy economies, automation is increasingly helping offset workforce shortages, while the conversation around sustainability continues to broaden.
For dairy, the future of sustainability is not only environmental. It is also economic.
Long-term viability, resilience and the ability to meet rising global demand will shape the next chapter of dairy production.

Safeguard your margins by ensuring that more of what is grown is actually fed and converted into animal performance.
In this blog, Elisa Boschi, global head of marketing for resource efficiency in Alltech’s Technology Group, explores how producers can make better use of existing forage, limit waste and reduce their reliance on purchased feed by:
• Optimizing harvest timing
• Supporting stable fermentation
• Storing feed safely

For Lori Stevermer, customer success manager for Alltech’s U.S. Pork team, one of the most important stories the pork industry can tell is how producers help sustain rural communities. Farms support local economies, create jobs and strengthen the social fabric of small towns across America. Their team members and families contribute to schools, volunteer organizations, fire departments and countless other community institutions.
"When there is livestock, you will see a more vibrant rural area," said Stevermer.
That is why telling the producer story matters.
At World Pork Expo, the conversations started with innovation, technology and markets.
But they kept coming back to people — including consumers’ perception of how our food system works.
Consumers care about clean water, healthy soils and responsible animal care.
So do producers.
Today’s pork producers are also telling their stewardship story. They are improving animal care, protecting natural resources and producing safe, nutritious food for families.
Choice matters, too: From affordable pork in grocery stores to specialty products at local markets, the strength of pork is that consumers have options.
The future of pork is not just about producing more. It is about people, communities and the values that keep rural America strong.
