🍎 An apple a day brings hands-on learning our way! 🍏

Our pre-primary students at Kay Shell Montessori had an amazing day exploring everyone’s favorite fruit: apples!

Following the classic Montessori approach to Practical Life skills, The teacher guided students through a special lesson on food preparation, showing them how we carefully wash, slice, and prep food safely.

The best part? The taste test! 😋 The children got to practice their fine motor skills and sensory exploration by sampling different varieties of apples, discovering the unique textures, and testing sweet versus tart flavors.

🌎✨ Exploring North America: Destination Mexico! 🇲🇽🍅🥑

Our Primary students at Kay Shell Montessori have embarked on an exciting cultural journey across North America, and our latest stop brought us to the vibrant country of Mexico!

In true Montessori fashion, our young learners didn't just look at maps—they immersed themselves in the culture through practical life skills and sensory exploration. Our little chefs rolled up their sleeves and got hands-on in the kitchen to make fresh, homemade salsa and guacamole! 🧑‍🍳👩‍🍳

Together, the children practiced:

✍️ Creating a plan and reviewing the step-by-step recipe.

🍋 Squeezing fresh limes and mashing creamy avocados.

🤝 Taking turns, sharing ingredients, and working as a community.

The best part? Sharing their delicious creations at the table with their peers! Gathering to eat lets students experience the true spirit of Mexican hospitality and community.

We love watching our students develop a deep respect and curiosity for the diverse world around them. Where will our cultural geography adventures take us next? ✈️

🚨 A Special Visit from our Community Helpers! 🚔🏍️ Our students at Kay Shell Montessori had a wonderful, educational day welcoming special guests from the Newnan Police Department!

The officers spent time teaching our little learners important safety lessons they can carry with them every day:

🚗 Buckling Up: The importance of always staying safely secured in their car seats.

🚲 Helmet Safety: Wearing helmets every single time they ride their bikes.

📋 Important Info: The value of knowing their parents' first and last names.

The absolute highlight of the visit? Students were invited to get an up-close look, explore, and even sit inside a real police patrol car and on a police motorcycle!

Thank you so much to the Newnan Police Department for taking the time to educate, inspire, and bring so many smiles to our campus.

🍎 Apples, apples, we love apples! 🍏

Our primary students at Kay Shell Montessori have been diving into a wonderful, hands-on study all about apples!

Here is a look at how our young learners explored this delicious fall favorite through the classic Montessori approach:

Learning the Parts: The children worked like true scientists, exploring and labeling the different parts of an apple—from the skin and flesh to the core and seeds.

Tasting & Voting: We put our taste buds to work with a fun apple tasting session! Afterward, the students cast their votes for their favorite type. In an exciting twist, the vote ended in a complete tie!

Practical Life Skills: Putting their fine motor and practical life skills into action, the students carefully washed, sliced, and prepared the apples themselves.

I Baking Together: To wrap up our lesson, the children worked together to mix, assemble, and bake a delicious, warm apple crisp.

The absolute best part of the day was sitting down as a community to share and enjoy the sweet rewards of our hard work!

As part of our Practical Life curriculum at Kay Shell Montessori, the children took their learning outdoors this week to plant our winter vegetable garden.

Little hands carefully planted broccoli and collard greens, learning firsthand how to care for living things and connect with the environment.

At Kay Shell Montessori, learning extends far beyond traditional academics.

This week, our Primary classroom students have been completely captivated by our sewing and textiles lessons.

While it looks like a fun creative activity, sewing is actually a vital part of the Montessori Practical Life curriculum. By working with needles, thread, and fabric, our young learners are developing incredible skills:

Fine Motor Control: Threading a needle and pulling it through fabric strengthens the pincer grip and hand muscles needed for writing.

Deep Concentration & Focus: The meticulous nature of stitching naturally helps children enter a state of deep focus and "normalization."

Spatial Awareness: Navigating the needle "up and down" through a 2D surface builds early engineering and mathematical concepts.

Independence & Confidence: There is immense pride when a child completes a project entirely on their own!

Kay Shell Primary students have been busy putting on their geography hats!

This week, we launched an exciting journey to learn all about our place in the world. 🚀

We started big and zoomed all the way in:North America: Students explored our massive continent and learned about the different countries that share it with us.

The United States: We looked at the map of our nation, talked about our flag, and discovered what makes our country so special.

Georgia: Finally, we landed right back home! Our little learners were thrilled to find our very own state on the map and share what they love most about living in Georgia.
