Good morning and welcome to my Schools out for the summer flatlay ! What do you think of when summer comes around ? I think of the beach, searching for shells and sea glass, picnics, spending time with friends and family and decorating with all my favorite coastal items, although the last couple years I have left all my coastal decor out year round because it just makes me happy :-)

I LOVE the starfish I purchased from . I put her right under my sconce so she has the spotlight on the mantle. I think the way her arms are positioned she looks like she is dancing and doing the arm wave :-) What do you think ?

Who loves mushroom coral ? I do … do you ?

Here are some fun facts about mushroom coral -

Mushroom corals are one of the few corals that can slowly move across the ocean floor by inflating and deflating their tissue or using small water currents.

Most corals anchor themselves to rocks, but mushroom corals often live freely in sand or rubble, and not permanently attached.

Mushroom coral can clone themselves by splitting in half and dropping small pieces of tissue that grow into new corals.

While mushroom coral are usually small, some pieces can grow up to 12 inches wide like a big dinner plate on the ocean floor.

When dried, mushroom corals hard skeleton creates beautiful, rigid fossil like pieces that people collect and you see in my picture above.
