While it is possible for empathy to be exploited, the nefarious actions of the few to manipulate and abuse the concerns for their needs should not be a deterrent to living the Golden Rule. Yes, if we really want to follow Jesus, if we’re willing to have all our human norms and ways of looking at the world and definitions of success thrown out with the rule books. No, if we want things to go on as they always have, with some on top, some on the bottom, some in, or some out. What was the reality show where the host would say, “You’re either in or you’re out”? And while that’s fine in a competition, do we really want life itself to be a competition? Do some have to be out so others may be in?"

All those feelings and tones make sense. We too are human.
