BISON Safety Winners – May
At CUDD, safety excellence is demonstrated through the daily actions of employees who remain attentive to their surroundings and take ownership of hazard recognition. This month’s BISON Safety Winners identified potential risks, addressed unsafe conditions, and ensured their crews could continue working safely and efficiently.
Let’s recognize the individuals who led by example this month:
📌 Rafael Rodriguez – Odessa
While coming off a well, Rafael noticed a ring gasket remained stuck on a fl**ge. Before work began to break off the BHA, he stopped the task and removed the gasket. His attention to detail prevented a potential dropped-object hazard while personnel were working around a suspended load.
📌 Algeraron Jefferson – Odessa
While connecting BOP hoses, Algeraron identified a clevis missing a nut and cotter pin, as well as another missing a cotter pin on straps used to secure hoses on the BOPs. He immediately stopped the task, installed the missing hardware, and reminded the crew of the importance of paying attention to small details that could lead to serious injuries if overlooked.
📌 Aaron Wettlaufer – Muncy
While rigging up from the pump to the well, Aaron noticed coworkers showing signs of heat-related stress. He proactively stopped work for a short break and ensured the crew had water available to rehydrate before continuing operations.
📌 Daniel Valdez – Odessa
While rigging up to a customer pipeline, Daniel identified a grounding rod protruding approximately three inches from the ground, creating a tripping hazard. He immediately notified personnel working in the area, ensured they acknowledged the hazard, and had the rod marked with a bright orange cap to increase visibility and prevent injury.
📌 Jon Chenault – Vernal
A newly assigned crane operator entered a high-pressure work zone without being fully familiar with site-specific hazards. Jon took the time to review the Job Safety Analysis (JSA), explain all associated risks and controls, and ensure the operator understood and acknowledged the requirements before work commenced.
These individuals demonstrated the awareness, leadership, and commitment that help protect their coworkers and reinforce CUDD’s culture of safety every day.
