Newburgh JCC
Welcome! We are a dynamic, growing community center that welcomes people of all faiths, ages, abilities and ethnicities. The short answer is, no!
The number one question I get is: do I have to be Jewish? The long answer is it is a beloved Jewish value to show a commitment to the community and the Newburgh Jewish Community Center does this every day through programming, outreach and culturally rich fundamentals. You.Belong.Here. :)

Shavuot marks the receiving of the Torah on Mount Sinai, over 3,300 years ago.
It is observed from sunset on May 21 through nightfall on May 23, following 49 days of counting and preparation. This sacred time is one of reflection, learning, and celebration.
Traditions include lighting candles, staying up late for Torah study, hearing the Ten Commandments read in synagogue, and enjoying festive dairy foods shared in community.
Wishing all who observe a meaningful and joyous Shavuot 🪻🌺🌷🌼🌹🌸🌻

Week 4 at Keshet Kids was full of learning and creativity 🎨
Ms. Celia continued exploring Hebrew songs and lettering with the kids as they built on what they’ve been learning throughout the program.
We also dove into the story Sadie’s Lag BaOmer Mystery, learning about how this special holiday is celebrated with bonfires, picnics, and weddings, along with the legacy of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai.
For an art activity, the kids created their own bonfire scenes using brown paper “logs,” fine motor skills, and a fun technique with foil painting. The results were wonderfully abstract, but as always, it’s about the process not the product.
We wrapped up week 4 by decorating tzedakah boxes with colorful gems, adding a little extra sparkle to a meaningful tradition ✨
We’re so grateful that this program is made possible with the help and support of , and whose partnership helps make these meaningful experiences possible for our Keshet kids.
