Proud moment for MRM! Partner Michelle Rider, Chair of the Ulster Savings Bank Foundation, recently presented grant checks to two incredible organizations: Abilities First and NEWBURGH COMMUNITY LAND BANK INC.

Abilities First supports individuals with developmental disabilities through education, employment, and community programs, while Newburgh Community Land Bank revitalizes neighborhoods by restoring vacant properties and creating affordable housing opportunities.

Through its ongoing commitment to supporting education, housing, and essential community services, the Foundation continues to make a meaningful local impact and we’re proud to see Michelle helping lead that effort.

In a recent article, Mahon Rider McKay attorney Mary Tamburri, Esq. outlined what patients, families, and advisors need to know about New York’s newly enacted Medical Aid in Dying Act.

The law authorizes mentally competent, terminally ill adults with a prognosis of six months or less to request and self-administer prescribed medication to bring about a peaceful death, subject to extensive procedural safeguards.

With this enactment, New York joins 13 other states and Washington, D.C. in authorizing medical aid in dying. Oregon, the first to pass such legislation in 1994, served as a model for many of the laws that followed.

This is a meaningful shift in the legal landscape; one that will require thoughtful guidance for patients, families, health care providers, and estate planning professionals alike.
