Three-stage filtration is not just a design preference — it is a cost and performance decision.

A single-stage system assigns the full collection burden to the HEPA filter. The result: faster loading, shorter filter service life, and higher per-job filter cost.

The INFILTRATOR three-stage architecture — used across the Mastercraft and Sootmaster lines — distributes that load across a collection bag, an intermediate filter, and the HEPA element. Each stage handles what it is engineered to handle, and each one extends the operational life of the stage that follows.

In practical terms: lower total filter cost per job, more consistent system performance across a service interval, and a HEPA filter that maintains its rated efficiency longer because it is not processing the full particulate load.

The equipment decision starts with the particle — not the motor spec.
Coarse dust, fine respirable particulate, and ultrafine soot require fundamentally different collection approaches. Standard filtration handles the coarse range effectively.

Fine particles in the respirable range require HEPA-grade filtration to achieve the capture rates required in professional and regulated environments.
Ultrafine particulate — particularly soot and carbon-based debris from fire and restoration work — introduces an additional variable: adhesiveness.

Soot does not behave like inert mineral dust in a collection system. It loads filter media differently, migrates through standard filtration at higher rates, and requires a sealed containment architecture to prevent re-aerosolization during filter service.
Mastercraft engineers its equipment lines to address each range of the particle spectrum with the appropriate collection and filtration architecture.

HEPA certification describes what the filter medium does — 99.97 percent efficiency at 0.3 microns, validated by the Hot DOP test method.
It does not describe what happens at the interface between the filter edge and the vacuum housing.
Without a gasket seal at that interface, a bypass pathway exists. Airflow exits the system through two routes: through the filter medium, where the certified performance applies — and around the filter edge, where it does not. The effective filtration of the complete exhaust airstream is lower than the filter certification alone would suggest.
The gasket seal closes the bypass pathway. With the perimeter seal in place, the complete exhaust airstream passes through the filter medium. The certification applies to everything that exits the system.
For restoration, critical HVAC maintenance, and regulated industrial environments where containment is the requirement — sealed filtration is the specification that delivers it.

Not all vacuum applications are the same problem.
Source capture work — chimney cleaning, boiler maintenance, restoration — requires fine particulate containment at a defined location. The specification that matters is capture velocity and filtration density.
Wide area facility maintenance — warehouses, commercial buildings, schools, healthcare facilities — requires consistent coverage across large surface areas. The specification that matters is cleaning path width, surface versatility, and filter capacity per maintenance run.
The Wide Area Vacuum is built for the second problem. Dual motor operation for consistent performance on hard floor and carpet. Wide cleaning path for high coverage rate per pass. High-capacity filter bags for extended maintenance runs without service interruptions.
Two different tools for two different scales of work.

Every vacuum system has two specifications that matter.
The first is how much air the motor can move. The second is what fraction of captured particulate the filter retains.
Most equipment conversations focus on the first. The second determines whether the system is actually containing fine particulate — or processing it through the collection housing and returning a portion of it to the working environment through the exhaust.
The Infiltrator 16" Absolute HEPA Filter with Gasket is certified at 99.97 percent efficiency at 0.3 microns using the Hot DOP test method. The perimeter gasket seal eliminates the bypass pathway at the filter-to-housing interface — the point where unfiltered air exits a system with an unsealed filter regardless of how the filter medium itself performs.
For soot, ash, silica, and sub-micron combustion particulate, filtration specification is not a secondary detail. It is the specification that determines whether the rest of the system performs as rated.

Professional chimney cleaning is a two-stage process.
The Big Red Air Blower B650 directs 94 cubic feet per minute of airflow with 90 inches of waterlift through a 1-inch precision nozzle — displacing accumulated soot and creosote from the flue wall with controlled, targeted pressure.
The Sootmaster 641M captures that displaced material simultaneously — 94 cubic feet per minute of matched vacuum capacity, through a 2-stage, 6-layer filtration system designed specifically for fine soot and sub-micron combustion particulate.
Two tools. Matched specifications. One closed system.

🥇 BIG NEWS for Mastercraft USA

Our SV280P Wide Area Vacuum has officially been upgraded to GOLD status by the Carpet and Rug Institute — the most recognized third-party certification in commercial floor care.

What does Gold mean?
55.3% soil removal — independently tested across three carpet types
3.6 surface appearance rating — carpet stays looking great after heavy use
11.5 μg/m³ dust containment — among the cleanest in its class

These results were verified by an independent, NVLAP-accredited laboratory. Not a manufacturer claim — a certified result.

Gold certification is also recognized under LEED v4.1 for facilities pursuing green building credits. If your facility needs certified equipment for compliance documentation, we have you covered.

📌 Certification
🗓️ Valid: April 1, 2026 – March 31, 2027

Dust control is not a single method. It is a system of approaches applied at different stages of the work.
1. Source Capture
Vacuum systems connected at the tool
to capture dust as it is generated
→ Prevents particulate from becoming airborne
2. Local Containment
Barriers or controlled zones
that limit how far dust can spread
→ Reduces cross-contamination between areas
3. Ambient Collection
Airborne dust captured after dispersion
through air movement and filtration
→ Manages particles already in the environment
4. Post-Task Cleanup
Removal of settled dust from surfaces
after the work is complete
→ Addresses visible residue, not airborne spread
