Hiding in Plain Sight, Illicit Massage Parlors Face a Crackdown 10/27/2025

While I was campaigning last year I was
alerted to the fact that we have 3-4 of these human trafficking massage parlours in our community. I met with a few in law enforcement and let them know that shutting these illicit businesses down - and rescuing the victims- would be a top priority once I was elected. A rescue can take months of planning and organizatin between agencies to be successful. I saw Ken Cornell’s wife at a party and told her it was one of my top priorities. I did not publically speak about it bc I wanted us to be able to rescue the victims and I was fearful that the traffickers would close that location and move the ladies to another location. Well I lost, the Sheriff lost and, to my knowledge, nothing has been done to rescue these ladies and rid our community of this filth.

Hiding in Plain Sight, Illicit Massage Parlors Face a Crackdown Several U.S. states are trying to root out s*x trafficking of migrant women at illicit massage parlors, which are nearly everywhere in America, writes Madeleine Rowley.

TGIF: All American 08/29/2025

This TGIF News recap is always a Friday morning treat for me. They rip on both sides with humor and expose the truth in a blunt way. There is an immigration segment in this one worth noting. It reminded me that most people don’t realize the huge impact immigrants to the us have made and are making in science in the US here today. My husband Tim Garrett’s research lab is as diverse as it gets - students from Africa, Saudi, Iran, Bangladesh, Eastern Europe, South America and beyond. They are working on ending milaria, diabetes, cancer, and rare diseases bc they have the unique ability to visualize and comprehend disease at a molecular level. They are all here legally and spending a fortune to stay here legally. We don’t need open borders to let in spies and criminals, but we need these brilliant minds on our team in the same way that we needed Europe’s great scientists to win WWII. Keeping the data secure is a real problem and we must be diligent that the students are here for the right reasons, but I’ve seen some of these students have a depth of appreciation for our country that most Americans will never know. The immigration solution doesn’t have to be all or nothing. We have the option of selecting the best and hardest working people to come here and keeping the haters out.

TGIF: All American Democrats take the gloves off. Taylor and Travis plan their royal wedding. Americans get graded on their Americanness. Fat guys argue about who’s fatter. An NFL joke for the boys. And much, much more.

Archer man, two Gainesville women killed in Newberry Road crash - Alachua Chronicle 12/24/2024

Deeply saddened to hear about the loss of three lives at this dangerous section of Newberry road. Shortly after the election I met with county officials who are working on road safety in our county. I had the chance to let them know about the dangerous roads that you told me about during the campaign and this - the entrance to Fletcher’s Mill at Newberry rd- was on that list. Please reach out to the County and let them know where our most dangerous roads are located. I have included a link to the road safety survey in the comments as well as an email for comments. I pray for comfort for the families of the individuals who passed today as they face the holidays without them.

2024 General Election Results - Alachua Chronicle 11/06/2024

It has been an extraordinary privilege to run for office in this county that I love. Thank you to my family, my friends and everyone who supported me through this journey. As hard as I’ve worked on this campaign, it just was not enough. However, that does not mean my work here in the county is done. I have had the pleasure of meeting so many incredible leaders and visionaries as part of this campaign. As many of you know, government should not be the solution to all our problems. I will be taking what I’ve learned through this campaign and working to connect those leaders and ideas- moving them forward as a private citizen. I’m excited to see what will bloom from this venture and I hope you will join me to working to build a brighter future for our county. Thank you, again, for believing in me, for supporting me and for all the texts and prayers you have sent me today. I can see the blessings even when the sky is dark.

Have you ever driven by the Female Protective Society on 39th ave and wondered what was going on in there? Last night I was invited to their Gospel Get Out the Vote event and it was extraordinary. Incredibly powerful music from talented vocalists and musicians- it stirred my soul and I am so grateful to Jancie Vinson for inviting me. The video is Ms. Leona Williams and I am photographed with Leon Young and his two sons Jamarion and Zaqan, both self-taught drummers who accompanied the vocalists. For some background- the Female Protective Society #10 was founded by Malida Haile right here in Alachua County in 1903 as a Christian based organization dedicated to improving the lives of women in our area.
