What started as a routine job became an important safety intervention. ⚠️

During a recent service visit for a gas line replacement, our mobile service mechanic Greg, was performing his standard pre-relight safety checks when he discovered the homeowner's flue pipe was severely cracked — a hidden hazard that could have led to serious consequences if left undetected.

Greg immediately notified the homeowner, escalated the issue for further inspection and made sure the proper safety protocols were followed. He also shared the importance of working carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.

Keeping our customers safe begins with attention to detail. We're grateful for employees like Greg who bring focus, skill and care to every job, every day.

Summer is full of reasons to celebrate — from graduations and pool parties to backyard BBQs and more. But before the fun begins, keep safety in mind when decorating outdoors.

Mylar balloons may look harmless, but if they come into contact with power lines, they can quickly put an end to your party.

🎈 Keep balloons tied down or weighted
🎈 Never release balloons outdoors
🎈 If a balloon gets caught in a power line, don't try to retrieve it yourself. Call us ASAP at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734)

Last night’s fast-moving thunderstorms brought heavy rains and strong, gusty winds throughout the state, particularly in towns like Cedar Grove, Glen Ridge and the Oranges. These conditions brought tree limbs down on power lines, resulting in power outages. ⛈️

While our crews have restored approximately 37,000 outages overnight, some restorations, like fixing downed power lines that go through backyards, present a unique challenge and may take longer — check out this video to learn more.

Remember: Downed wires should always be considered “live” and dangerous. Stay at least 30 feet away and report them to us ASAP. ⚡

We know that being without power is frustrating and inconvenient. We appreciate your patience as our crews continue to work 24/7 to restore all customers without power safely and as quickly as possible.

Superstorm Sandy changed New Jersey forever. It changed us, too.

In the days and weeks after the storm, our crews worked around the clock to restore service and help our communities recover. The experience reshaped how we prepare for extreme weather and strengthen the energy system you rely on every day.

In a recent Energy Central Power Perspectives podcast, Paul Toscarelli, our VP of Electric Operations, reflects on what it was like on the ground during Superstorm Sandy, the challenges crews faced and the lessons that continue to guide our work today.

From elevating substations to installing smart grid technology, we've made significant investments to help strengthen reliability across our New Jersey.
