I’ve been hard at work the past few months executing this passion project. I’ve always wanted to create a design that shows the applications of origami at the human-scale. This process was challenging, but thanks to my amazing design partner, Nathan Shehadeh, I feel one step closer in my goals.

Our team thanks Marziah Zad and Mohsen Marizad for guiding us down the right path!

Process of designing the Croissant -

20 x 40 cm tissue foil

Something very different this time! Scroll to see the design process.

The goal here was to develop an unfamiliar primitive form into something familiar using an explorative approach to design. Although it looks simple, this model’s shaping process needed several iterations before I was happy with the curves. Now I can dig in! 🤣🥐

Haven't found time to get more papers so I ordered online from my favorite origami shop. Very happy with these! Thanks Paper Tree !

"oculus" Designed and Folded by Andrew Yee | Wetfolded from one 50 x 13 cm rectangle

I've been studying parametric designs in my interior architecture classes for the better half of this year, so I decided to apply it to origami. This is a basic model that uses simple parameters: equally spaced curves that constrain themselves around one point.

ラーメン (Ramen) Designed and Folded by Andrew Yee | 1 square of tracing Paper creates the Chopsticks, noodles, and bowl

Ramen is a crucial part of my life, so I wanted to express that through origami. Whether it’s the instant ramen packets that get you through college, or authentic ramen from a ramen shop, all are equally loved.

Hand-pulled noodles are amazing, but have you ever tried hand-folded noodles?
It’s a relatively simple CP, but the shaping is slightly complex. I am using similar techniques as my Wine model.

Zenitsu Agatsuma (Demon Slayer) | 1 sheet of kraft paper | No cuts or glue

Hey look, I'm alive! Now that college is over I could finally get back into origami! I actually started this model back in January but school called for a long hiatus. Demon Slayer is one of my favorite shows, and Zenitsu is so funny! I had to make him! Quite a relatable character given that I feel most powerful when I'm asleep 🤣🤣

Portrait for a friend | 1 sheet of kraft paper (144x276 grid) | No paint, cuts, or glue | Folded by Andrew Yee

This is my first time doing an origami portrait for someone I personally know.

I've finally completed my first serious commissions this past month. It feels great to help put origami on the map for fine art. It's always been an ongoing effort of mine to build people's appreciation for origami, especially if they have never seen the complex side of this art form. This is what drives me to fold, and it finally feels like I'm getting somewhere! ☺️

V of BTS | 1 rectangle of Kraft paper | No cuts, glue, or paint

That said, this one took 23 hours over the course of 4 days and now my fingers feel like they're on FIRE! But my Blood Sweat and Tears paid off in the end. I wanted someone to Save Me from all the folding but I'm Fine now. ON and off, my fingers had cramps and it was a real Spine Breaker from slouching over so much but the day of completion made for a very Sweet Night 💜

Jellyfish v.3 | Designed and Folded by Andrew Yee | Tracing Paper

I redesigned my favorite fish again! This is a mix between controlled crumple and box pleating. I'm planning to experiment a lot more with this technique. I'm slowly building an origami aquarium at this point...
