And infinite creativity!

Thank you Newark Public Schools for inviting us to work with our city's talented youth again as part of Summer Quest!

Last Friday was our last day with our summer intern, Chloe. She was an extraordinary addition to our team!

She journeyed to several Newark Public Schools with our Summer Quest Teaching Artists, helping students with mosaics, jewelry-making and other projects. She also assisted with classes, field trips, events off and on-site and myriad tasks in between.

As you can in this photo, the young people she worked with this summer appreciated her just as much as our staff did!

Speaking about her experience, she shared:

“This summer working with Glassroots affirmed my passion for teaching and expanded my artistic practice in ways I hadn’t imagined. Learning how to make glass art and then translating those skills into accessible, engaging lessons for students of all ages has deepened my commitment to pursuing a career in art education!”

Thank you, Chloe, for all your hard work this summer. And big thanks as well to our friends at for sending her our way!

Who knew summer school could be this much fun?!

We just wrapped a hands-on jewelry-making workshop as part of Newark Public Schools’ Summer Quest program.

It was a joy helping these 4th graders select beads, colors and textures for their bracelets, keychains and necklaces. One student explained that she was drawn to nature and included mini leaves and trees in her necklace while another created a unique piece for each of her family members!

GlassRoots Bids Farewell to Longtime Board Members Roger C. Tucker III (Board President), Mary Jaffa (Treasurer) and Will Simpson.

We are sad to see Roger, Mary and Will go but we know we’ll still see them around the neighborhood!

💫 Roger has served on our board since 2017, transitioning to Board President in 2020. He helped steer our expansion to our future home in Teachers Village, brokered countless connections and has consistently been a passionate brand ambassador!

💫 Mary has served as our Treasurer since joining our Board of Directors in 2015. As Treasurer, Mary worked closely with our Executive Director, Carol Losos, and our Finance Committee to steward all financial affairs.

💫 Will Simpson joined the board in 2018 and has provided valuable guidance regarding our strategic priorities and critical community involvement.

Current status: basking in the glow of last Thursday’s GlassBall gala and last night’s Tony Awards. 💫

As Hamilton creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, reunited with the original cast at last night’s ceremony, we felt an even deeper appreciation of our work and our studio artists.

Just last month, our team collaborated with The Town Hall to create The Town Hall Vanguard Award for Miranda who was honored at their Spring Shout Benefit Concert on May 19th! In addition to this bespoke award, we also made fellow honoree Tom Wirtshafter’s award by hand right here in downtown .
