TEDDU-NGAL
Teddungal is a word from the Fula language that represents Honor, Dignity, and Respect. More than a word, it is a way of carrying yourself through life.
For generations, these values shaped communities. They were reflected in how people respected their elders, welcomed visitors, protected one another, and upheld their word. A person’s value was not measured by wealth or status, but by their character.
At Jufure, we believe this message is more important today than ever before.
We live in a world that constantly tells people who they should be. Teddu-ngal represents the choice to remain grounded in who you truly are. To move with confidence without arrogance. To treat others with respect. To carry yourself with dignity, even when no one is watching.
While the word comes from the Fula people, the values behind it belong to all of humanity.
This collection was not created for one tribe, one country, or one community alone. It was created for those who believe that true strength comes from character, that respect should be given freely, and that dignity should never be compromised.
Every piece in this collection carries the belief that the way we conduct ourselves matters. Not because of the clothes we wear, but because of the values we represent.
In a time when many people are searching for identity, Teddu- ngal speaks to a timeless truth
Honor yourself.
Respect others.
Carry your dignity everywhere you go.
Because true greatness is not found in what we own, but in how we carry ourselves.

A Magistrates’ Court has set aside an earlier order foreclosing a key prosecution witness in the corruption trial involving two senior officials of the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC), ruling that the interests of justice require that the witness be allowed to complete his testimony.
Delivering the ruling on Wednesday, Magistrate A. Manneh granted an application by the State seeking to reverse a foreclosure order issued on March 2, 2026, against the prosecution’s first witness (PW1) in the case of The State v. Cherno Omar Cham and Babou Secka.
Cham, NAWEC’s Finance Director, and Secka, the utility’s Treasury Manager, are facing charges of official corruption contrary to Section 86(a) of the Criminal Code and abuse of office contrary to Section 90 of the same Code.
According to the charge sheet filed by Principal State Counsel M.D. Mballow on February 25, 2025, the accused allegedly solicited bribes ranging from D2 to D5 per metre from Dheeraj Vatnan, Manager of DIVYA Trading, in connection with a contract to supply NAWEC with 476,500 twisted connection cables.
The State alleges that the two officials, while conducting an official market survey and negotiating cable prices on behalf of NAWEC, abused their positions by seeking payments outside established procurement procedures, conduct said to be prejudicial to the interests of the national utility.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmadou Lamin Samateh, has informed the National Assembly that The Gambia recorded 30 maternal deaths in 2025, according to updated national health statistics.
Responding to a question from the National Assembly Member for Banjul Central during Wednesday’s parliamentary sitting, Dr. Samateh provided revised maternal mortality figures generated through the country’s health information management system.
“The correct maternal mortality statistics for 2025 indicate a total number of maternal deaths of 30, with 80,720 live births recorded,” the minister told lawmakers.
He further outlined the institutional and national maternal mortality ratios, explaining that the figures are derived from both health facility and community-level data.
“The institutional maternal mortality ratio stands at 128.8 per 100,000 live births, while the total maternal mortality ratio is 116.1 per 100,000 live births,” he said.
Dr. Samateh noted that the statistics are generated through the District Health Information Software 2 (DHIS2), a digital platform that automatically processes and tracks health data to enhance accuracy and minimize reporting errors.
“The DHIS2 platform automatically calculates and tracks maternal mortality statistics,” he explained.

The Government of The Gambia is finalizing plans for the construction of a modern 2,000-capacity correctional and rehabilitation facility in Brikama Nyambikala, a project aimed at transforming the country’s prison system from a punitive model to one focused on rehabilitation and reintegration.
Speaking on GRTS Radio’s Minister Talks programme on Wednesday, Interior Minister Abdoulie Sanyang said the proposed facility is being designed in line with international human rights standards and best practices in corrections management.
According to the minister, the new facility will eventually serve as the country’s primary correctional center, reducing the long-term reliance on existing detention facilities.
“Once you establish such a facility, the existing detention centers will become temporary holding facilities. The question is, when people are sentenced, where will they be accommodated?” Sanyang said.
He revealed that the government had initially considered expanding the prison cells at the Jeshwang facility. However, President Adama Barrow directed authorities to pursue a more comprehensive solution that would address the broader objectives of correction and rehabilitation.
“The President made it clear that simply expanding the cells in Jeshwang would not achieve the desired outcome. His vision is to move away from a purely punitive system toward a correctional and rehabilitative approach,” Sanyang explained.
As a result, the government developed plans for a correctional and rehabilitation complex and allocated land for the project behind Brikama.

Yankuba Darboe, Chairman of the Brikama Area Council and a senior member of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has dismissed the prospect of a coalition between the UDP and Essa Faal’s APP-Sobeyaa, citing fundamental disagreements over leadership selection.
Speaking in an interview with QTV, Darboe said the positions of both parties on leadership are too far apart to allow for a viable political alliance.
“If I am to be honest with myself and everyone, I don’t think UDP will ever be able to have a coalition with Essa Faal. Essa Faal has made his position clear, and our position is also very clear,” Darboe said.
According to him, the key point of contention is the selection of a coalition flagbearer. He noted that while Faal has publicly opposed what he describes as the “coronation” of a presidential candidate, the UDP believes its leader should naturally lead any alliance because of the party’s political strength and support base.
“He said he will not accept coronation, and to us coronation is what we want; we want our party leader to be coronated. He is the leader of our party; we are the biggest party,” Darboe said.
Despite ruling out a partnership with APP-Sobeyaa, Darboe indicated that the UDP remains open to coalition-building ahead of future elections. However, he emphasized that any such arrangement would be led by the UDP and would differ from the coalition models currently being discussed in political circles.
