EDO STATE ECONOMY HITS $26 BILLION GDP, NOW THE 7TH LARGEST IN NIGERIA UNDER GOV. MONDAY OKPEBHOLO

BENIN CITY, EDO STATE – Edo State has recorded a major economic milestone, with its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) officially reaching $26 billion, surpassing the $25 billion threshold projected by the immediate past administration for 2024.

The new figure positions Edo State as the 7th largest economy in Nigeria, a clear testament to the impact of focused governance and people-centred policies under the leadership of Governor HE Sen Monday Okpebholo Okpebholo.

According to data highlighted by the Office of the Special Adviser on Public Affairs and Media, the growth reflects renewed investor confidence, improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and strategic investments across key sectors of the state’s economy.

“This achievement is not by accident. It is the direct result of deliberate policy choices, fiscal discipline, and the Governor’s commitment to growing Edo’s economy from the grassroots up,” the statement read.

The Okpebholo administration has anchored its economic blueprint on the S.H.I.N.E. Agenda—Security, Health, Infrastructure, Natural Resources/Agriculture, and Education.

Since assuming office, the administration has prioritised:

* Infrastructure: Flagship projects, including the Benin City flyover and statewide road rehabilitation, to improve commerce and ease the movement of people and goods.
* Security: Deployment of operational vehicles and sustained support for security agencies to protect lives, property, and investments.
* Health and Education: Renovation of schools and primary healthcare centres to strengthen human capital development.
* Agriculture and Natural Resources: Repositioning Edo State’s agricultural value chain and harnessing its mineral resources to create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

The $26 billion GDP milestone is more than just a statistic. It signals that Edo State is open for business and that the policies of the current administration are delivering measurable results.

Governor Okpebholo reiterated that this achievement is only the beginning.

“We will not relent until every Edo son and daughter feels the impact of this growth in their pocket, in their community, and in their future,” the Governor said.

With this milestone, Edo State is sending a strong signal to investors, development partners, and the global community: Edo State is Rising. The Future is Here!
