You’re invited to our National Radar Verified Top Prospect Meeting, held every Tuesday at 9:00 PM EST.

This week, we’re covering one of the most important parts of the recruiting process:

Targeting the Right Coach & Building Effective Outreach

Most families assume the position coach is the right first contact. It feels logical. Your athlete is a wide receiver, so you find the wide receivers coach and send the film.

But that may not be where the recruiting process starts.

Many college programs assign coaches specific geographic recruiting areas. That area recruiter can be an important first connection because they are responsible for identifying and evaluating prospects within their assigned territory.

A recruiting process may look something like this:

Area Recruiter → Position Coach → Coordinator/Recruiting Staff → Head Coach

The area recruiter identifies the prospect and reviews the film. If there’s interest, the prospect can move through additional evaluations by the position coach and other members of the staff before an offer decision is made. The exact process varies by program, but understanding who recruits your area and how that staff operates can make your outreach much more targeted.

During our next Top Prospect Meeting, we’ll talk about how to identify the appropriate recruiting contacts at the schools you’re targeting, how to approach them, and how to start building genuine connections instead of simply sending film and hoping someone sees it.

Submitting your information is the beginning of the process.

To officially be added to the National Radar Verified Top 50 Watch List and eventually be considered for the final National Radar Top 50, prospects must become National Radar Verified.

Verified prospects can then move through our evaluation process, which includes review by college coaches as we work toward identifying the top prospects.

One of the biggest mistakes talented athletes make is assuming that if they are good enough, college coaches will eventually find them.

Recruiting doesn't always work that way.
