Meet Thay – a QVS Space Manager at our London headquarters and an active member of the Bloomberg Women’s Community. 👋

Thay is a proud parent of her 11-year-old daughter, Alannis, and committed to teaching her daughter that she can do and be anything she wants. This might mean spending hours in front of their home selling bracelets, planning and preparing her for drama auditions, coaching her to run a 5k in support of Cancer Research Charity, and even overcoming her own fears to climb trees and complete ropes courses with her daughter. Her goal is to not only make an impact in her daughter's life, but to inspire the next generation of women to see no limits to what they can achieve. “In truth, I am in admiration of my daughter. Most of the time she is the one teaching me.”

Meet Cynthia, an 18-year Bloomberg veteran and one of the three co-leads for BPC, Bloomberg’s Black Professional Community.

Though she was born and raised in New York, tracing her family’s American journey has been Cynthia’s passion for as long as she can remember—a genealogical hobby she inherited from her mother.

Her American ancestry dates back to 1870, just seven years after the effective end of slavery, and can be traced to Africa prior to that time. “We found out through research, Damon, my great-great-grandfather on my mother’s side, actually built a school,” Cynthia said. By unearthing census records, Cynthia said she was able to tell a story: Damon went from an illiterate slave to someone who owned property, had a mortgage and built a school to help black children—on land that he owned.

“You can’t know where you’re going,” Cynthia said, “Unless you know where you’ve been.”

When not in the office, you can find Cynthia with her family—on a cruise ship, making pizza and watching movies every Friday night.

The Vortex consists of three leaning structures, perfectly balanced to support each other without columns. Artist Olafur Eliasson's "No Future is Possible Without a Past" installation can be seen within the space, animating the movement of visitors and staff through the building.
