Visited The Drama Bookshop. Rescued and revived by Lin-Manuel Miranda and some of the people of Hamilton. Partnered with the cafe inside and enjoyed by dozens of people an hour.

Haven't been here in over 15 years when it was at its original location a couple blocks away.

Being inside made me miss the Los Angeles bookstore, Samuel French. Where actors, playwrights, and screenwriters would frequent for a script, a reading, a signing, an industry aid, or an indulgence in community and intellectualism.

Halloween, 2024. Good people, good times, good signs.

I finally took a tour of this gorgeous original, the Kimberly Crest Mansion, and then went to The Magic Castle. No photos allowed inside either one.

Entrance they had us use was through what is The MC's men's room. Loved imagining the smells on the way in heh. I found myself saying "Open sesame" and Rubik's Cubing in my mind the rooms and memories of spaces and where they go, throughout my jaw-dropping tour. Working at the Magic Castle did make this tour even more special. I noticed chills running down my spine at times, thinking about life for the owners of both mansions and how they must have shared drinks together.

The place is brilliantly preserved, ornate, and thoughtfully designed. With electricity built into the home with its construction in 1897 and nooks and rooms for every possibility, there's nothing in the way of throwing the most lavish planned or spontaneous soiree.
