Discover Vincent van Gogh’s "Roadway with Underpass" (Le viaduc) 🌿
While living in Paris, Van Gogh often traveled to Asnières, a suburb outside the city, to paint directly from the landscape. He believed artists should study nature firsthand, writing that a scene must be “found” in nature rather than invented.
Painted in 1887, "Roadway with Underpass" reflects a pivotal moment in Van Gogh’s practice as he experimented with the techniques and ideas shaping modern painting—from the lighter palette of Impressionism to the color theories of Divisionism.
The work also foreshadows the bridges and urban landscapes Van Gogh would later paint in Arles, marking a transition toward the expressive style he is known for today.

What happens when a familiar subject becomes an experiment in light and movement? 🐈⬛
Natalia Goncharova’s "Cats” transforms a scene of three felines into a study of energy, color, and perception. Created in the Rayonist style, the work reflects the movement developed by Goncharova and her artistic partner Mikhail Larionov, which moved beyond traditional representation to explore the effects of light.
Painted shortly after Goncharova’s participation in the 1912 Der Blaue Reiter exhibition, "Cats" captures the artist’s search for a new visual language rooted in modernity and experimentation.
Explore this work IRL in "Collection in Focus: Modern European Currents."

Now Open → "Collection in Focus | Zidane, a 21st century portrait" ⚽
Presented publicly at Guggenheim New York for the first time, this installation marks the twentieth anniversary of Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno’s iconic work—and arrives on the first day of the 2026 World Cup.
Filmed during a single match at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in 2005, "Zidane, a 21st century portrait" follows Zinédine Zidane () in real time through the lens of seventeen synchronized cameras, transforming one game into an intimate portrait of spectacle, celebrity, memory, and movement.
On view as a unique two-screen installation in the Peter B. Lewis Theater, the presentation pairs the theatrical film with raw footage from one of the original camera feeds—offering a new way to experience this landmark work from the Guggenheim collection.
Screening continuously during museum hours through July 19.
Visionary support for Collection in Focus is provided by Aleksandra Janke and Andrew McCormack, with additional funding provided by The Achelis and Bodman Foundation and Laura Clifford.
