Live Load Bench

Ten years ago tonight, Tom Muchowski passed away after a two year battle with cancer. He was 42 years old. On a stormy night just like this, friends and family gathered for his memorial at my aunt’s apartment on Central Park West. I was overwhelmed by how many of you in the fashion production world came to show your love and respect. I will never forget every face and every kind word that consoled my family that night. In the years that have followed, season after season, there is always someone who tells me a story, or simply sits on a bench and tells me they still think of him. Tom was friendly, and goofy, and charming. He was, frankly, very tall, and when he was in the room everybody noticed. Tom cared deeply about art and design in architecture and furnishings. When he was approached to design a bench for fashion show seating, he deeply considered materials and proportion and function. Tom’s bench that is three lines on paper has become an iconic facet of fashion shows in NY. I am so proud of Tom. I miss him. I think of him every day. And on this rainy night, through my tears, I would like to thank you: the apex of creatives who incorporate our design into your events. Thank you for helping us keep the big guy’s legacy alive.
