Our founder, Cecily Tyler, was recently interviewed about Docutribe’s work with students at Chernivtsi National University. 🎥🇺🇦

Through supporting student documentary projects created with limited resources, this collaboration is helping students share their stories with local and global communities and document life in Ukraine through their own lens.

Films are posted!

The latest student films from our Fall and Spring 2025-2026 cohorts are now live at:

Our remarkable students from Chernivtsi National University were assigned to create short films that celebrate and/or honor Ukraine via ethical storytelling using:

• smartphones 📱
• free editing software 💻
• a zero-dollar budget 💰
• a mix of remote and in person weekly classes 🧑‍🏫
• and mentorship from award-winning filmmakers around the globe 🎬

This was done all while navigating chronic power outages, lack of heat, and the terrorizing consequences of the full scale invasion happening to Ukraine.

13 films were produced by 13 student teams.

Last week, the students gathered for the university’s annual film festival screening at former Czernowitz Synagogue, now Chernivtsi Cinema to celebrate the completion of their films, and the work is incredible! We are so proud to stand in support of Chernivtsi National University and the students’ dedication while creating such impressive work!

Special thanks to Bohdana Smyrnova’s family for their award to the journalism students: the Hanna Lukianuk Award—to honor the memory of thier grandmother, Hanna Ivanivna Lukianuk.

We want to thank Latakoo for providing their incredible media management platform, their ongoing support to train our students on the software’s tools, and supporting our team.

All of this was possible with the support of the City of Chernivtsi, the University Rector Ruslan Biloskurskyi, and the deans, professors, and translators from the Department of Linguistics and Translation and the Department of Journalism. Thank you!

We look forward to welcoming our next cohort of 40 students this fall! 🎥

Some people lead quietly. Some people lead boldly. And then there are people like Vika who do both.

Through her unwavering belief that young voices can be nurtured and empowered, Vika has helped build Docutribe’s programs to thrive in Ukraine. She is a mentor, educator, translator, and guiding force for students determined to keep creating through unimaginable challenges. In turn, these incredible students have held what is Ukraine sacred.

Vika is proof that one person’s dedication can change countless lives.

Your donation helps Docutribe continue supporting our fellows, like our Chernivsti National University students, and empowering filmmakers and changemakers around the world.

Handel and Haydn Society 04/17/2026

The recording is up: Docutribe is honored to be a partner of the Handel and Haydn Society for the series, More Than Music.

The inaugural event, Music for Healing, was a powerful conversation with Brian Harris of MedRhythms, Joy Allen of Berklee College of Music, Christina Day Martinson, and moderated by our Founder, Cecily Tyler. Sponsored by Rockland Trust.

At Docutribe, we believe storytelling in all its forms can inspire change and deepen understanding. This event beautifully reflected that mission by sharing the science, humanity, and lived stories behind music’s impact on the brain and body.

Our fellow, Patrick J. Lynch, has been in production on his latest film, Under Main Street.

Under Main Street is an upcoming short film that looks at how local leaders are fixing their drinking water and wastewater challenges in the era of climate change. Across the country, the U.S. needs to spend at least $630 billion to update outdated water infrastructure in the next 20 years. As the climate changes, water-rich regions like Upstate New York’s Mohawk Valley and the Catskills have a lot of potential to bring families and businesses back to their communities. But the success of these small towns depends on whether they can find the funds to improve their water systems, before the money (and water) runs out. This film asks local leaders what the future may hold, with lessons for policy makers and anyone who believes water is a human right.

In observance of World Water Day, we’re sharing this teaser to highlight the vastness of the Mohawk River and the interconnected systems and ecosystems that depend on it.

Because protecting our water means protecting our future.

For Women’s History Month, we’re honoring Alice Guy-Blaché — the first female filmmaker and one of the pioneers of cinema. 🎬✨

In 1896, she directed one of the earliest narrative films ever made, helping shape storytelling on screen at a time when film itself was brand new. She went on to found her own studio, Solax, becoming one of the first women to run a film production company and directing or producing over 1,000 films throughout her career.

At a time when women’s contributions were often erased, Alice didn’t just participate in film history — she created it.

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate her vision, innovation, and the path she paved for generations of women storytellers to follow.

February 24 marked four years since the start of the war in Ukraine. As the week comes to a close, we’re holding space for reflection and celebrating the next generation of storytellers finding their voice and sharing truth.

Through filmmaking, they’re learning to tell their stories, express themselves, and shape their own narratives. We’re so proud of the powerful work they’re creating. It reminds us why storytelling matters.

Four years since the full-scale invasion began — four years of grief, anger, and devastation. We do not romanticize resilience. We want the war to end. We want the attacks to stop. And we seek to do our part.

The cost continues to rise. In 2025 alone, more than 2,200 civilians were killed — the deadliest year for civilians since the war began. Behind every number is a life. A family. A future interrupted.

Our commitment is not symbolic. We continue to support emerging Ukrainian filmmakers documenting truth, preserving cultural identity, and shaping narratives grounded in dignity.

Storytelling is leadership, community, and courage.
It is memory.
It is resistance.

We stand with Ukraine — today and always.
