Spending the weekend upstate? Join us at Citiot in Catskill for the opening of "Bodies that Work: Artifacts from Repair Shop," an exhibition by Kathleen McDermott in collaboration with Open Source Gallery.
When: Friday, June 5th, 4-7pm
Where: Citiot (404 Main Street, Catskill, NY)
Repair Shop, a 2025 exhibition at Open Source, turned the gallery into an experimental space for considering the lifespan of objects and when they are assigned “value,” especially in the context of work.
One side of the gallery was set-up as a repair shop, open to donations from the public, and the other side served as a showroom, featuring appliances from the artist’s home that could no longer perform their original functions––a sewing machine that didn’t sew, a blender that leaked motor fluid––but that still had some working parts. Using techniques from puppetry and animatronics, Kathleen McDermott made strange, campy attachments for the “broken” machines, expanding on the parts that still functioned, and engaging them in a dialogue around questions of domestic work, motherhood’s impact on the body, and the labor of repair.

Open Source Gallery is pleased to present IDENTITIES, a project by Hidemi Takagi. The exhibition will be on view from June 13th - July 26, 2026, with an opening reception on Saturday, June 13th from 7-9pm.
IDENTITIES is a photography and interview project centering mixed-race teenagers. Takagi builds long term relationships with the teenagers to gather stories that are both visual and verbal, composing complex and whimsically self-costuming portraits of mixed-race life and its public and private faces. Through IDENTITIES, Takagi documents biracial/multiracial people’s roots and the cultural tendrils that have grown and intertwined from them, and addresses the issues of mixed-race identity, racism, and immigration in America and other countries.

SWUNK: [soo-unk], Noun: 1. Style of music that combines swing and funk
Swunky Z —Drummer, Todd Isler, and sax player, Lily White, discovered they shared a dream: To form a brass band. This is how Swunky Z came to be. After finding the right players, they performed in the park, on the street and in front of bars.

Join us on Thursday (5/21) from 7-9pm for a final performance and artist talk by Albrecht Fersch in his exhibition, Rumble 'N' Rattle.
Through performative activation of the space, the costumes, and the instruments, movements will be translated into sound. While usually music starts and we dance to it, in Rumble ‘n’ Rattle, the dance comes first and the music will follow.

There’s so much to explore and learn about at the KoKo Lot, and our Spring Party is the biggest public event we host there every year!
The Lot is our outdoor space where we host workshops for kids, including camp KoKo, boat building, house building, medieval times, and of course Soapbox! The Lot is also home to many artistic projects: a garden created with the philosophy of reclaiming urban spaces, a classroom built by participants in our Teens Building the Future Together program, and projects built by artists-in-residence over the past several years.
We hope you’ll come check out the Lot on Friday, May 29 (6-9pm) for the Spring Party and explore all the different things we do!
The Lot is located at 440 19th Street in Brooklyn, between 8th Ave and Prospect Park W. The nearest subway stop is the 15 St-Prospect Park F & G, about an 8 minute walk. The B61, B67, and B69 buses also stop on our block.
RSVP at KoKoSpringParty.eventbrite.com!

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Cocktail Party to raise funds for Open Sound - we had a great time with you! If you couldn't make it, there's still time to donate to Open Sound by visiting open-source-gallery.org/sound-fundraiser! Open Sound relies on community support to keep our summer concerts free for everyone!
A HUGE thank you to the wonderful musicians who jammed out, and to our hosts, Elke and Ben, for organizing such a wonderful event in their beautiful garden! Thank you to all of you who attended and contributed!
