Happy Juneteenth from Womankind!

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States and honors the resilience, achievements, and contributions of Black communities throughout history and today. As we mark this important day, we're sharing three ways to reflect, learn, and celebrate.

Womankind reaffirms our commitment to continue fighting against systemic inequalities that impact Black communities—long after emancipation—and express our solidarity on this Freedom Day and beyond.

Wishing everyone observing Juneteenth a meaningful, joyful, and safe holiday.

Womankind recently attended a celebration of Asian resilience hosted by the Kings County Family Court AAPI Heritage Committee. At the event, Jennifer Le (Community Education & Outreach Manager) spoke about our work with Asian survivors of gender-based violence and the importance of recognizing their strength and self-advocacy.

The event brought together advocates, legal professionals, and community members to honor AAPI Heritage Month while raising awareness about human trafficking through a lens of resilience and culturally responsive support. Thank you amny for highlighting this special event. Read the full article at https://www.amny.com/law/brooklyn-family-court-celebrates-resilience-of-aapi-heritage-with-human-trafficking-lecture

For survivors of gender-based violence, safe and stable housing is a cornerstone of recovery and long-term safety. This proposed rule from HUD would destabilize families, undermine public safety, and disproportionately harm children and U.S. citizens in mixed-status households.

We have urged the administration to withdraw this cruel proposal and pursue policies that create more affordable housing and expand rental assistance rather than policies that scapegoat immigrants, tear families apart, and exacerbate our housing crisis.

Visit: https://www.iamwomankind.org/news-and-updates/womankind-opposes-huds-proposed-rule-to-deny-mixed-status-families-access-to-federal-housing-assistance/ to read the statement Womankind submitted as part of broader advocacy efforts urging HUD to abandon the proposed changes. Now that the public comment period has concluded, HUD is obligated to review these submissions before issuing the final rule.
