Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865 β the day the last enslaved people in the United States were informed of their freedom. Itβs a time to reflect on history, honor resilience, and recognize the ongoing pursuit of equality.

β Ask Dr. Como
One of the most common questions we hear is, "Why do my gums bleed when I brush?"
While occasional irritation can happen, healthy gums generally should not bleed during brushing or flossing. Bleeding gums can be an early sign of inflammation, gum disease, or another dental concern that should be evaluated before it becomes a bigger problem.
The good news is that early detection and treatment can help keep your gums healthy and protect your smile for years to come.
Have a dental question you've always wanted to ask? Dr. Como is here to help! Leave your question in the comments, and it may be featured in a future Q&A post. π¦·

Fun Fact: Your tongue is just as important as your teeth when it comes to a healthy smile!
Most people focus on brushing and flossing, but your tongue plays a major role in your oral health too. It helps you taste, speak, chew, and swallow, while also being home to millions of bacteria.
Taking a few extra seconds each day to brush or gently scrape your tongue can help reduce bad breath, remove bacteria, and keep your mouth feeling fresh and clean.
A healthy smile starts with healthy habits, and that includes caring for your tongue!
Did you know your body helps protect your teeth every time you chew? Saliva plays an important role in maintaining oral health by rinsing away debris and helping balance acids in your mouth.
That's one reason staying hydrated and maintaining healthy eating habits can benefit your smile.

β¨ Staff Spotlight: Meet Mary! β¨
Behind every great dental team is someone who brings experience, compassion, and dedication to every patient interaction. Today, we're shining the spotlight on Mary, our incredible Dental Hygienist!
Mary began her journey in dentistry as a dental assistant at NYU before becoming a hygienist. She has worked alongside Dr. Como since the early days of his career, creating a professional partnership built on trust, teamwork, and a shared commitment to exceptional patient care. Together, they have helped countless patients achieve healthier smiles both in our office and through NYU's Implant Program.
When she's not caring for patients, Mary enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, and relaxing with a good Hallmark movie. Her warm personality, experience, and genuine care make her an invaluable part of the Como Dental Design family.
Thank you, Mary, for everything you do to help our patients feel comfortable, confident, and cared for every day!
