🧠 HORMONE DEFICIENCY & THE FEMALE BRAIN
One of the biggest misconceptions I hear every day is:
“Brain fog is just part of getting older.”
Or…
“You’re just stressed.”
Or my personal favorite…
“Welcome to menopause.”
But what if I told you that the scientific literature has repeatedly demonstrated that estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone are not simply reproductive hormones?
They are brain hormones.
In fact, estrogen receptors are found throughout the brain, including the hippocampus (memory center), prefrontal cortex (focus and executive function), amygdala (emotion and anxiety regulation), and hypothalamus (sleep, metabolism, and temperature regulation).
This means that when hormone levels begin to decline during perimenopause and menopause, the effects extend far beyond hot flashes.
Women commonly report:
🧠 Brain fog
🧠 Forgetfulness
🧠 Difficulty concentrating
🧠 Loss of mental sharpness
🧠 Word-finding difficulties
🧠 Anxiety
🧠 Depression
🧠 Sleep disruption
🧠 Lack of motivation
🧠 Mental fatigue
And guess what?
These symptoms are not “all in your head.”
They are actually occurring IN your brain.
Research has demonstrated that estrogen helps regulate:
✔️ Brain energy metabolism
✔️ Synaptic communication
✔️ Neurotransmitter production
✔️ Memory formation
✔️ Cognitive processing
✔️ Mood regulation
✔️ Neuroprotection
Estrogen influences serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine—the very neurotransmitters responsible for mood, motivation, focus, and emotional well-being.
As estrogen declines, many women notice changes in the way they think, feel, sleep, and function.
Brain imaging studies have even demonstrated measurable changes in:
• Brain glucose metabolism
• Brain connectivity
• Gray matter volume
• Hippocampal function
• Executive processing centers
This is why so many women tell me:
“I don’t feel like myself anymore.”
“I can’t remember anything.”
“I walk into a room and forget why I’m there.”
“I can’t focus like I used to.”
“I feel disconnected from who I was.”
These experiences are common during the menopause transition—and they are supported by decades of neuroscience research.
One of the most fascinating areas of research is known as the “Timing Hypothesis.”
Research suggests that when hormone therapy is initiated around the menopause transition, it may have different effects on the brain than when started years later.
A landmark study by Whitmer et al. published in Annals of Neurology found that women who used hormone therapy during midlife had a 26% lower risk of developing dementia later in life compared with women who never used hormone therapy.
Other large observational studies and meta-analyses involving millions of women have demonstrated similar findings, suggesting that estrogen therapy initiated near menopause may be associated with a lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive decline.
Now before anyone twists my words…
This does NOT mean hormone therapy is appropriate for every woman.
It does NOT mean hormones are a guarantee against dementia.
And it does NOT mean women should start hormone therapy without an individualized discussion regarding risks, benefits, and medical history.
What it DOES mean is that hormones play a far greater role in brain health than many people realize.
Women spend nearly one-third of their lives after menopause.
We routinely replace thyroid hormones when the thyroid no longer functions properly.
We prescribe insulin when the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin.
We replace cortisol when the adrenal glands fail.
Yet somehow society has accepted the idea that a dramatic decline in estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone should have no effect on the brain.
The science suggests otherwise.
At Gleaux Rx, we believe women deserve evidence-based conversations about hormones, menopause, cognition, and long-term brain health.
Because you deserve more than being told:
“That’s just aging.”
You deserve answers.
You deserve options.
And you deserve to feel like yourself again.

🔥 HOT FLASHES? NIGHT SWEATS? THERE’S NOW A NON-HORMONAL OPTION. 🔥
For years, women struggling with hot flashes had limited treatment options. While hormone therapy remains one of the most effective treatments for many women, it isn’t the right choice for everyone.
Now there is an FDA-approved, NON-HORMONAL medication specifically designed to treat moderate to severe hot flashes and night sweats associated with menopause.
✨ Meet Veozah® (Fezolinetant) ✨
Unlike hormone therapy, Veozah does NOT contain estrogen or progesterone.
Instead, it works by targeting a group of receptors in the brain involved in regulating body temperature.
During menopause, declining estrogen levels can disrupt the brain’s temperature control center, causing sudden feelings of heat, sweating, flushing, and night sweats.
Veozah helps calm those signals and may significantly reduce:
🔥 Hot flashes
💦 Night sweats
😴 Sleep disruption related to hot flashes
🌡️ Sudden temperature changes
Who may be a candidate?
✔ Women experiencing moderate to severe hot flashes
✔ Women who prefer a non-hormonal approach
✔ Women who are not candidates for hormone therapy
✔ Women looking for additional symptom relief
Things to know:
• Veozah is prescription only.
• Routine liver monitoring is recommended while taking the medication.
• It does not replace estrogen and will not treat all symptoms of menopause.
• Symptoms such as vaginal dryness, painful in*******se, loss of libido, joint pain, and bone loss may require additional evaluation and treatment.
At Gleaux Rx, we believe every woman deserves individualized care.
Whether you’re interested in hormone therapy, non-hormonal treatments, or simply want answers about what your body is going through, we’re here to help.

🩺 How Is Primary Care at Gleaux Rx Different?
Many traditional primary care offices are forced to see 25-40+ patients a day, often allowing only a few minutes per visit.
At Gleaux Rx, we take a different approach.
✨ We spend more time listening.
We want to understand your symptoms, your goals, your lifestyle, and the bigger picture—not just check a box and send you on your way.
✨ We focus on prevention.
Instead of waiting until disease develops, we emphasize early detection, wellness, screening, and risk reduction.
✨ We look for the root cause.
Rather than simply prescribing another medication, we work to identify why you’re experiencing symptoms and address underlying contributors whenever possible.
✨ We integrate traditional and wellness medicine.
You don’t have to choose between primary care and optimization. We offer both under one roof.
✨ We evaluate hormones, thyroid function, nutrition, metabolic health, and lifestyle factors.
Many symptoms that patients are told are “normal” may have underlying causes worth investigating.
✨ We offer comprehensive care.
From annual wellness exams and sick visits to hormone optimization, weight management, men’s health, women’s health, ADHD management, and preventive screenings.
✨ We believe healthcare should be personalized.
No two patients are exactly alike, so treatment plans shouldn’t be either.
What Stays the Same?
We still provide evidence-based medical care and follow accepted medical guidelines.
The difference is that we combine that foundation with a more personalized, prevention-focused approach designed to help patients not only avoid disease—but truly thrive.

🔥 THE INTERNET CHALLENGE: BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES & CANCER 🔥
Since we live in a world of instant gratification and Google, let’s have a discussion based on actual evidence—not fear, headlines, or things we heard from a friend of a friend.
Every day I hear:
❌ “Bioidentical hormones cause cancer.”
❌ “Hormones are dangerous.”
But here’s something we rarely talk about…
⚠️ What are the risks of NOT replacing hormones when they are clinically indicated?
We hear all the time about the potential risks of hormone therapy, yet almost nobody talks about the documented consequences of hormone deficiency.
What about:
• Increased cardiovascular disease risk
• Osteoporosis and fractures
• Genitourinary syndrome of menopause
• Sexual dysfunction
• Cognitive changes and brain fog
• Sleep disturbances
• Mood changes
• Loss of muscle mass and strength
• Increased visceral fat
• Declining quality of life
Why is that side of the conversation so often ignored?
So here’s my challenge:
👇👇👇
Post ONE statistically significant study under this post that specifically demonstrates a link between bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and cancer.
Not a blog.
Not a TikTok.
Not a headline.
An actual study.
And while you’re at it, tell us:
📊 What was the study?
📊 What was the sample size?
📊 What was the statistical significance?
📊 What does that significance actually mean?
And if you don’t know the answers to those questions, that’s okay too! Post the study anyway and we can discuss it together below. That’s how we learn.
Because many people throw around terms like “increased risk” without understanding what the numbers actually show.
For example:
👉 A statistically significant result means the findings were unlikely to be due to chance alone.
It does NOT automatically mean the risk is large, clinically meaningful, or applicable to every patient.
Let’s discuss real science.
Let’s discuss relative risk versus absolute risk.
Let’s discuss the difference between:
• Synthetic progestins vs bioidentical progesterone
• Oral estrogen vs transdermal estrogen
• Estrogen-only therapy vs combined therapy
• Compounded hormones vs FDA-approved bioidentical hormones
Because those distinctions matter.
Let’s have the discussion.
Let’s look at the evidence.
Let’s challenge misinformation.
Let’s separate fear from facts.
👇 Post your studies below.
I’m genuinely interested in seeing what everyone can find.
