Oh my…I can’t even believe Im pondering chickens and turkeys. Like, an entire flock! Part of me is like, “Um, yes totally, fresh organic eggs, living the absolute dream!”But the other part of me is looking at my schedule and thinking... “Wait, Chantel, is this a massive responsibility trap?!”

Honestly, having some space out here in the country to even ponder wild decisions like this is the best feeling ever. Maybe I should just stick to my kitties??

What living near Memorial Park in New Prague actually feels like.

Walkable mornings on Main Street. Friday night ballgames you can hear from the porch. Kids on bikes until the streetlights come on. Neighbors who actually wave.

Five things nobody tells you about ISD 721.

One. The district boundary is bigger than the city. ISD 721 serves several communities across 3 counties: Scott, Le Sueur and Rice. The primary cities are New Prague, Lonsdale, Veseli, Elko New Market and Lonsdale, so you can buy a little farther out and still get the schools.

Two. Third grade reading proficiency is around 87 percent. The state average sits closer to 57. That gap is not a typo.

Three. There is an active transfer-in waitlist from Prior Lake and Shakopee families trying to get their kids in. If you are on the waitlist, you are one of many non-resident families waiting for a spot to open up.

Four. The 3rd grade deadline is real. Families want kids settled before they attach to another school, so spring and summer are the move windows.

Five. The cheapest way in is not always New Prague proper. Sometimes it is a Lonsdale address that still feeds into 721.

If you keep finding yourself making excuses for a house, the cramped kitchen, the busy road, the gut feeling that something is off, that's worth paying attention to.

Excitement and compromise are different things. Compromise sounds like "the laundry room is small but we can make it work." Overlooking sounds like "I'll just learn to live with it." One is normal. The other tends to follow you home.
