During the 1995 Nashville sessions with the area’s legendary session players, the tracklist was completely fluid. An early studio lineup shared by producer Ben Vaughn shows that the album started out with a full dozen songs, though “Japanese Cowboy” was not in the lineup just yet. At this point in development, “Powder Blue” was still spelled “Powder Bleu,” and lost cuts like “I’ve Got No Darkside” and “So Long Jerry” were still actively in the running. The full story of those sessions finally comes to light on the upcoming Deluxe Edition of 12 Golden Country Greats dropping July 31st, which expands the album into a massive 36-track collection. Ahead of leaving for Nashville to cut 12 Golden Country Greats, Gener and Deaner were busy working on a whole set of pre-album demos. “Bad Day in Brownsville” was tracked back in 1995 in the thick of those early sessions. It never made the journey down south, and the tape was tucked away for decades. We recently pulled it out of the vault, uncovering a few other mystery tracks time forgot. There are no notes left on the missing tracks, but they absolutely rip. There’s a whole lot more tape where this came from.

For those who haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, here’s a reminder that pre-orders for 12 Golden Country Greats (Deluxe Edition) are live. We originally had a limit on Bolo ties and candles, but have reopened orders due to the high demand. If you missed your chance to grab them, they’re available again now.

Also, we’re reissuing ‘Quebec’ and ‘White Pepper’ on vinyl alongside making the entire studio catalog available again on CD. https://ween.lnk.to/store
‘White Pepper’ will be reissued as a 1LP on green pepper vinyl; ‘Quebec’ will be issued as a 2LP set, cut at 45rpm on ecomix magenta and red vinyl. Awesome sound. Also, all the Ween studio albums are being collected in one place for the first time as a 10CD set called ‘brown box,’. ‘Quebec,’ ‘White Pepper’ and ‘brown box’ all available April 3, 2026 via Rhino. ‘Bring Out the Foos: Live 1996’ is out on February 27.
