Could screen time be related to anxiety/depression symptoms in preschool children with autism spectrum disorder?

A recent study of preschoolers with autism spectrum disorder found that participants with higher amounts of reported screen time experienced increased symptoms of depression and anxiety compared to children with low reported amounts of screen time. The study also found that greater screen time was associated with reduced volume of the left superior frontal area of the brain, which itself is linked to anxiety/depression, suggesting a susceptibility in autistic youth to brain changes from screen time that affect mental health.
