Where woodworking and whiskey meet, but never at the same time.

It fits!! And even better, it works!! And while I was at it, I painted and stained the decks, AND installed this sign i designed and painted.

It ain’t perfect, but it’s perfect for its purpose. Gotta truck this thing out to New Buffalo and install it as a secondary access point to a play loft in our cottage.

Find the cottage at if you want to rent it (and hit me up about it, too). Look for Pinewood Cottage.

After a long time away, getting back into the woodworking game a little bit, mostly unscathed. Note to self (and anyone else who needs to know): NEVER wear gloves while running the table saw. Or any other power tools, for that matter.

I took a break from knitting ( ) today to finally finish and hang these hat racks. They really make the bedroom look a lot cleaner.

I made a thing.

Remember that wine rack I made last year? It finally made it to its new home! And apparently it’s not just for wine bottles. Maybe I should make more racks!

It’s been quiet in the Rye Cellar for quite some time. I’ve been very active over at instead. Hopefully this new addition to the shop will help inspire me to make some noise (and dust). Thanks so much to Pete Perrello for this dust collector!!

Boxed these guys up and sent them on their way today. If you ever need super strong floating shelves, be sure to check out .brackets. Loved using the drill guide and routing template. And the stud lock mounting system is awesome! You can mount these shelves exactly where you want them and still be able to anchor to a stud!

I love what adding a clear finish does to hardwood.

Glue-up time! In the name of efficiency, I tried gluing 3 individual shelves at once. I think 2/3 are good. I’ll have to rip and re-glue the 3rd.

Not bad for my second real (i.e., hardwood) glue-up ever.

I need to learn more about my jointer. I eventually got it set up to where edge-jointing pine seemed really good, but when I ran a 9” piece of 34” long 8/4 Red Oak through it, the edge came out concave. I think the board was just too heavy for this jointer and created some flex in the tables. Whatever it was, I decided to try out a jointer sled for the table saw, with the help of some hot glue to keep the board on the sled. Seems to have worked pretty well!

Somebody got a new toy. I mean “tool”. Not a toy...definitely won’t have fun using this.

It needs some setup, but I’m excited to learn how to use my new 8” jointer!! Perfect size for a small shop like mine.

I’ve got so many projects on my list, I better get to work ASAP!
