In the news....
After 6 victories for this moderate Republican in an overly Democratic community and 11 years serving as Mayor of New Britain, Erin Stewart officially announced on Tuesday, Sept. 24 that she will not seek a 7th term. Her accomplishments are many. Her challenges upon taking office were real. She demonstrated determination, grit and commitment to the Office and to our City.
Leaving partisanship aside for a moment, we must congratulate this Mayor on her political experiment to bring diversity of thought and political affiliation to her team. She has famously created the RUD caucus demonstrating to other communities that it (I call "it" cross party pollination) can be done. With a common goal and mission anything is possible - regardless of one's party.
And at the local level what are the basic goals: Financial stability, safe and engaging schools, open space for parks and recreation, growing the grand list through development and redevelopment, working with private investors to come into our community and invest in us, partnering with the State to bring grant dollars into our community for transit oriented development and the expansion of housing opportunities, clean water, safe streets, professional police & fire departments, a network of social service agencies to assistance residents in need, trash pick up and snow removal.....
Then there is the vibrancy and enthusiasm factor - are the residents energized and proud to call New Britain their home.
This Mayor will leave a solid legacy of accomplishments behind her when she leaves office in Nov. 2025.

Who will run for office next? Who can pick up the baton of success and keep this momentum alive?

The next few months will be interesting to watch.....stay tuned!

Do labels really matter in politics?
When you are researching candidates and their policy objectives, does the label come into play?
Is building or renovating a school a good idea only if one party initiates it or is it just simply a good idea?
Can zoning policy and economic development be proactive and beneficial without having a D or R next to the person's name?

Would a Rose 🌹by any other name smell as sweet?

Lets talk about what we all want to see in good government without talking about labels. Can this conversation occur?
