ARBOREAL TERMITES - Sol Mexico News 10/14/2021

ARBOREAL TERMITES - Sol Mexico News ARBOREAL TERMITES: Silent Destroyers © Tara A. Spears On my daily dog walks I’ve noticed two HUGE colonies of termites in Guayabitos. The largest nest is easily a meter long- I can’t imagine how many thousands of termites are living there. My first house in Jaltemba Bay was more than 20 years o...

I love these Giant Moths! Aren’t they beautiful?! They have designs on their wings to help defend against predators by blending into their surroundings and some designs look like a larger predator.

Cicada Wasps, don't be so afraid of these guys! I know, they are huge, buzz, and fly really close to you so it is freaky. The good news is, males don't have stingers and those are the ones flying into you, it's just for intimidation. Though the females have stingers, they are very docile and slow to sting unless you are grabbing them or trying to squash or step on them they generally won't sting. These are beneficial in reducing the cicada population, which destroy our trees! So these large wasps that seem like the size of a small bird are actually a good thing! If you want to get rid of them for good, fix your yard. Get rid of sandy and bare patches in your yard because thats where these girls dig their burrows. So fix the lawn, resolve the issue. Here is a picture from a job we just did and you can see the female dragging the paralyzed cicada to her burrow where she will use it to feed her young. Pretty cool huh!?!

Under a deck is a scary place for a nest. As you walk your sending vibrations through the deck to the nest putting the hornets on high alert defense mode!

This nest was quite intimidating for our client. By the time we left, the nest was completely harmless and our client was completely satisfied!
