We were able to replace it with a brand new one thanks to your donations! He had an accident on “La Bestia”, the train that immigrants ride up from Mexico. That was 19 years ago. With three very young children to support, he was trying to get to the United States to look for work. The accident on the train cost him his right arm and leg. Strollers, diapers, and therapy

One little boy suffered severe hypoxia at birth, leaving him with permanent disabilities. His story is sadly not unique. CHPH provides strollers so parents don’t have to carry their children everywhere, and cloth for reusable diapers for kids who will never be independent in caring for themselves. Sadly, there are many children who suffer from this affliction in the regions we serve.

This child is fortunate to live near the Nelly Santos Foundation, where he receives therapy to help with joint contractures. Many others do not have that chance.

From severe hip pain to walking again

Elena lived with severe hip pain and could barely walk without support. When we met her the first time, she told us she didn't want a walker or wheelchair because she wanted to continue to walk for "as long as she could". The next time we spoke, she asked for a walker. We were able to coordinate hip surgery with our partners, One World Surgery. Today, she is recovering well and receiving ongoing therapy with support from our local partners. Elena will soon be donating her walker to another patient in the community

A new wheelchair, a restored livelihood

Rigoberto – Step by step, getting stronger

Four-year-old Rigoberto was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder about 18 months ago. CHPH has been covering logistics for his testing and therapy, and recently sent him to the Social Security Hospital for vision testing. He will be getting glasses so he can see better.

Meet Josue, a sweet 3-year-old born with club feet. He had surgery as a baby, but after his family moved back to rural Opatoro, they lost access to follow-up care. Now Josue is developing painful ulcers that threaten to delay the surgery he urgently needs.

CHPH is working with One World Surgery and Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos to get him back into care, monitor his health, and prepare him for treatment in March. This will be a 4-year journey of therapy, braces, orthopedic boots, and dozens of follow-up visits — but it will change his entire future.

CHPH is working with One World Surgery and Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos to monitor his health, get him ready for surgery in March, and support him through four years of follow-up: therapy, leg braces, orthopedic boots, and many visits. It’s an investment in the rest of his life.

We recently raised $5,000.00 to meet our obligation for a very generous grant through our partners with Unite to Light and Airlink. This grant will bring 2000 solar lights and 80 solar chargers for our solar light program in Honduras. Our shipment was "deprioritized" due to the hurricane that ravaged Jamaica. Airlink will ship them soon, however.
On our recent trip, we brought our remaining lights to Mestesas, a barrio that runs along the river that borders El Salvador in Opatoro, La Paz. This beautiful community (no guns, no trash, no chemicals, no cutting trees or flowers, no fires) has zero access to electricity. They have cattle and horses and grow corn and other vegetables, but there is no coffee in this region. It was a two-hour (rigorous!) ride out from La Florida, the village where the heart of our work began- and continues.
We made four stops in Mesetas in order to reach 52 families. The health promoter from Florida had already organized everything with the community. Each family signed for their lamp, and our coordinator Ailin Pineda did her magic (she tells the story behind the lights, and shows them how to use and care for them).
It is a joy to spread "Luke's light" to such grateful people and to know what a difference it will make in their daily lives.
We are so grateful for each donation that will make so much possible when we return in February for a broader distribution!
