“When I was four years old, my mom was diagnosed with a rare form of an incurable stage three brain cancer, Anaplastic Astrocytoma. When I was seven years old, my dad, Peter Cairns, started riding in the PMC for Team Haley-Cairns Brain Tumor Research Fund. When I was a child, I didn't know what it meant for my mom to be sick. Still, the PMC was just a way for my sister and me to look at the good people do for people like my mom.” - Megan Cairns 9 year volunteer
Why I PMC - Megan Cairns Megan tells her story about cancer in her life and why 2026 will be her 9th year volunteering for the PMC

"I recently learned that my life long friend, Laura, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Despite receiving such devastating news, she has faced it with incredible strength, positivity, and grace. Watching her determination and spirit inspired me in a way I can’t fully put into words. Two weeks later, when registration opened, I knew without hesitation that I had to ride again — this time in her honor." Last night, we gathered at the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport for the 2026 PMC Heavy Hitter Evening, a celebration of generosity, impact, and the unwavering commitment of the PMC community.
Throughout the evening, guests heard powerful insights from PMC and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute leadership and longtime PMC riders, including Billy Starr, Dr. Benjamin Ebert, Dr. George Demetri, Dr. Suzanne George, Paul Schaye, and Nicole Kaitz, with additional remarks from Josh Bekenstein and Meredith Beaton Starr.
Their messages were clear: now, more than ever, PMC funding is fueling critical advancements at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and supporting the doctor–patient relationships that define lifesaving cancer care in Boston and around the world.
