Sometimes you need the big picture before you zoom in on the details.

Focus variation microscopy (FVM) on the Evident LEXT™ OLS5500 captures the macro shape of your sample, and when combined with laser scanning microscopy (LSM) or white light interferometry (WLI), bridges the gap from macro geometry to microstructure in a single platform.

✅ Macro-scale shape acquisition
✅ Combine with LSM or WLI for seamless macro-to-micro coverage
✅ Full surface context without switching instruments
From overall form to fine texture, one system, one workflow.

Happy ! This week, we’re celebrating another winner of Evident’s 6th Annual Image of the Year competition. 🥳

Captured using fluorescence with UV excitation, this year’s Regional (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) winning image features the stigma of chicory, Cichorium intybus, with pollen grains.

While we’re used to seeing this plant growing in nature, it’s amazing to see the intricate details revealed under the lens of a microscope. 🔬

A scientist and an artist look at the same microscope and want completely different things from it.

That moment came up while Evident’s Udo Steininger was helping filmmaker Jan van IJken prepare for Pole to Pole with Will Smith, the new National Geographic and Disney+ series, and it turned out to be one of the most quietly fascinating parts of the entire project.

Udo, with his scientific background, defaults to maximum resolution. For semi-transparent aquatic organisms, that often means differential interference contrast (DIC), the standard method for extracting fine structural detail from transparent samples.

Jan, the artist, wanted something else entirely. Every frame of his film needed a deep black background so that cuts between species would feel like a continuous journey through an otherworldly universe. His choice was darkfield illumination on Evident's BX53 fluorescence microscope, which provided the visual consistency he needed to tell a seamless and immersive story.

Same instrument. Two completely different approaches.

The right microscope objectives make a big difference when capturing live-cell images. Silicone immersion objectives from Evident are designed to reduce spherical aberration, giving you brighter, higher-resolution images of cell activity over time.

Watch how Evident’s IXplore™ technology paired with a silicone immersion objective captured embryogenesis from early to late stages over 67 hours, taking images every 10 minutes to reveal activity in the embryo's development.

In modern life science research, mastering macro‑to‑micro imaging can be a challenge. Users frequently encounter optical and workflow constraints, including limited working distance, refractive index (RI) mismatch‑induced aberrations, and the need to switch objective lenses during imaging.

With the LUPLAPO25XO oil immersion objective lens, confocal microscopy users can overcome these barriers and consistently capture detailed images of their samples.
