At Saltwoods, the salvage, milling, drying, design, and fabrication is all done one tree, one log, and one table at a time. We keep the entire process in-house to ensure quality at every step. When you buy from Saltwoods you’re buying furniture that’s solid, sustainably sourced, and has a story to tell. The Saltwoods workshop is led by Roland and Dan. We’ve been building tables
Following up on our focus on custom tables this week, we wanted to showcase a completely different material and aesthetic: the Oak Live Edge.
While the rich, traditional look of mahogany is timeless, there is something incredibly captivating about a piece that embraces the raw, organic shapes of nature. This custom table is built from solid oak, leaving the natural “live edge” intact. No two slabs are ever identical, meaning the lines, cracks, and character of this surface belong entirely to this home.
Whether your style leans toward sleek and modern or raw and organic, our goal at Saltwoods remains the same: crafting centerpieces that tell a story every time you gather around them.

While custom kitchen islands and cabinetry have been taking over our shop lately, we can never forget where it all started: the classic dining table.
This custom piece is a beautiful reminder of what happens when you work with exceptional materials. Built from solid mahogany, it features a rich tone and unique grain pattern that mass-produced furniture simply cannot replicate. We chose to highlight the natural character of the timber, pairing it with smooth, rounded edges and a timeless base that feels both modern and deeply rooted in traditional craftsmanship.
Even as we expand what we build for your homes and businesses, our commitment to making one-of-a-kind centerpieces remains the same.

Meet Vinny!
Mix-and-matching materials is one of our favorite ways to build a centerpiece. For this custom Dairy Table, we paired a gorgeous piece of Brazilian stone called White Rhino with a rich walnut base, featuring classic details like a traditional ogee edge and rounded radius corners that flow perfectly into custom turned legs.
True quality means designing for the details you see and the ones you don’t. This piece is a blend of a kitchen island and a dining table, featuring perfectly matched grain across the soft-closing drawers and a 12-inch inset that gives you plenty of legroom to pull up counter-height stools and hang out while dinner is prepped.

A look at a gorgeous big leaf maple coffee table. Incredible grain …
Your dream home wasn’t built out of a catalog, so why should your furniture be?
While mass-produced options might fill a gap, they often feel out of place in a space designed with intention. A “one size fits all” approach from a big-box retailer can’t capture the scale, the warmth, or the specific character that your kitchen deserves.
At Saltwoods, we believe your furniture should be an extension of your home’s architecture. This custom kitchen island was built to be more than just a workspace, it’s a centerpiece designed to handle the rhythm of daily life while perfectly matching the aesthetic of the room.
When you choose custom-built, you aren’t just buying a table or an island; you’re investing in a piece that was literally made for you.

While Saltwoods is known for custom dining tables, our craft extends to every corner of the home, including the heart of the kitchen.
This Brook Knodel Kitchen Island is a perfect example. If it looks familiar, it’s because we recently featured its stunning End Grain Mahogany top. Seeing it finished and installed highlights the deep, rich tones of the mahogany and the incredible detail of the mosaic-like pattern.
Furniture is something you touch and see every single day. When a piece isn’t built for your specific workflow or doesn’t meet the quality your home deserves, it becomes a burden. But when it’s custom-built to your exact needs, it changes the entire energy of the room.
From kitchen islands to countertops and beyond, we build furniture that is adapted to your life, not the other way around.

Swipe to see what happens when a piece is built specifically for your home.
When you are designing your dream space, furniture from a big box store often feels like it doesn’t quite fit. Usually, these “standard” pieces miss the mark on the right size, the feel of the wood, or the unique character your kitchen needs.
These details show the Saltwoods difference. This kitchen island was made to be more than just a surface, it’s a centerpiece built to handle your daily life while matching the style of your house perfectly.
Choosing custom-built means having something that was made only for you, with a level of quality you can see in the grain and feel in every edge.

At Saltwoods, the way we cut and assemble our lumber defines the entire personality of a piece.
As Dan explains, choosing between Flat Sawn, Edge Grain, or End Grain changes everything, from the organic “cathedral” flow of the wood to the industrial durability of a butcher block or the intricate mosaic of an end grain masterpiece.
We work with carefully sourced hardwoods, keeping the natural character of the material instead of sanding it away. This allows us to build around the specific space the piece is going into, ensuring the grain orientation matches both the look and the function you need.
Which grain pattern stands out to you? The organic movement or the industrial strength?

Beautiful Pecan live edge dining table! The remaining wood from the slab was utilized for an accompanying bench, so nothing goes to waste. Pecan wood has stunning natural character and colors, while being incredibly strong. Double I metal base with a cool patina matches perfectly. Headed to its home tomorrow!
