“Leaves of three, let it be” and “hairy vine, no friend of mine” are good reminders to keep in mind when you and your kids are outside.
Poison ivy, oak, and sumac contain oil that can cause an itchy rash when it touches your skin. Even breathing in smoke from burning these plants can be dangerous. While most rashes can be treated at home, certain symptoms may require additional care from your primary care.
Call our office if your child has:
• Trouble breathing or severe coughing after being around burning plants
• A rash that lasts more than 3 weeks
• Signs of infection or serious swelling
• Rash on the face, eyes, lips, or ge****ls
• Rash covering more than 1/4 of the body
• Symptoms getting worse
