Early signs of reading challenges can show up in many ways, and the people closest to a child often notice first…

Parents see daily struggles and recognize familiar patterns.
Children sometimes say reading feels harder than it should.
SLPs spot language patterns that impact early literacy.
Teachers see how a child compares to peers in real time.

Each perspective matters. When any of these signs appear, early support can make all the difference.

Sprout Labs provides structured literacy tools and daily practice that help families act sooner and keep progress moving.

The International Dyslexia Association just released a new definition for the first time in 20 years.

Here’s what’s changed and why it matters:
✅ Recognizes genetic, neurobiological, and environmental factors
✅ Highlights early oral-language weaknesses
✅ Moves away from IQ-based comparisons
✅ Includes impacts on writing, language, and well-being
✅ Reinforces that early intervention is essential

At Sprout Labs, we believe one thing: Reading Can’t Wait.

Looking for a quick, active way to review vocabulary?📝⚡️

This sticky note game turns reading into movement and makes practice fun!

👉🏽 Write vocabulary words or spelling words on sticky notes and place them on a wall or table.

✨ How to play:

1️⃣ Call out a clue: “Which word means the opposite of cold?”
2️⃣ Your child races to grab the correct word from the wall.
3️⃣ Play again with synonyms, riddles, or even math facts!

✔️ Add a timer for an extra challenge.
✔️ Switch roles and let your child call out clues for you.

Interactive games like this make learning multisensory, build vocabulary, and keep kids engaged through play. 💡

📚5 Ways to Boost Your Child’s Reading Confidence This School Year

Confidence plays a huge role in how kids approach reading. When children feel capable, they are more likely to keep trying even when the text gets tricky.

Here are 5 ways to help your child feel like a confident reader:

1️⃣ Celebrate effort, not just results
2️⃣ Choose books that match their reading ability
3️⃣ Model your own love of reading
4️⃣ Read together as much as you can
5️⃣ Create a comfortable and pressure-free reading space

✨ The right strategies can help kids feel proud of their reading progress and keep building skills all year long.

💡 Want a clearer picture of how to best support your child’s reading growth? Sprout Labs offers a science-backed at-home assessment that identifies strengths and areas for support, then gives you a personalized plan to help your child thrive.

📚✨ Set your child up for reading success this school year by starting a conversation with their teacher.

Here are 4 questions to ask:

🔹 What reading assessments will my child take, and will I see the results?
Most states require early reading screenings in K–2. Your teacher can share which ones your school uses and how results will be shared.

🔹 What’s the school’s approach to teaching reading?
Ask if your child’s school uses the Science of Reading, a research-backed approach that benefits all learners.

🔹 What’s the most helpful thing I can do at home?
Your teacher can recommend simple ways to build reading skills and confidence.

🔹 If my child is not meeting benchmarks, how will I be informed?
Early intervention is most effective. Make sure you’ll be notified quickly if concerns arise.

💡 Sprout Labs partners with parents to strengthen reading skills through our Reading Roadmap and personalized instruction from an Orton-Gillingham Reading Specialist. Pair what happens in school with targeted support at home.
