What I LOVE about this conference is that we have professionals from all walks of life coming together to EMPOWER PARENTS!!!
The small choices we make every day have the potential for huge long term outcomes, and no one understands this better than Stephanie Peterson of Crosspoint Personal Training!
Stephanie started working with my kids 3 years ago at a time when I was ill. My kids have a connective tissue disease that impact how they move. She has worked with them both in person and online, and she was exactly what we needed!
My son also has Pectus Carinatum, and we believe that he was over working some of his muscles due to his connective tissue disease. This additional muscular stress likely caused his bones and cartilage to develop thicker in places than others.
Working with Stephanie has helped him learn to use his muscles more appropriately and lessen the impact of his condition.
So many of our kids don't move their bodies the way they are supposed to because of differences in development and sensory processing. Helping them learn to be aware of the needs of their own bodies for continued health is SO important!!
Join Stephanie as she talks about "Adapting Fitness for All Needs and Why it Matters."

It's another day, and I have another great speaker to announce: Stephanie Buckwalter of Adapted Home Education!
Stephanie will be speaking on "When Strategies Stop Working: What to Check First" and "Why Independence Is Harder Than Academics." And let me tell you! I definitely feel that second topic!!!
One of the things I have been talking with parents about recently is how much time and effort is needed in the teen years -- not for academics -- but for those skills needed to develop independence!!
So make sure you come and check out BOTH of Stephanie's talks!!

Today I am sharing about the session I will be doing: Teaching the Holocaust.
Now you might wonder why I would choose to talk about that at the Supporting High Needs Learners at Home Online Conference.
Children with disabilities were also targeted during the Holocaust, but is anyone talking about preparing our students with disabilities to come across historical events where people decided they didn't deserve to live?
I'll answer that question for you! I've NEVER heard anyone else talk about how we talk about the Holocaust with kids with disabilities except myself!
And the reason this is so important to me is because I was traumatized by my own experience visiting a Holocaust museum.
My teacher thought to prepare us for the visit... but no one thought to prepare me for the fact that other kids with disabilities like me were also targeted!
We need to teach these difficult topics, but we also need to be thoughtful in how we do it!!
I'll have a lot of great information for you so be sure to sign up for the conference!!

Today is another day, and I have another speaker to announce!!! Kelly Edwards is one my new friends, but we've had lots of friends in common for a while!!
Kelly supports a lot of families who have adopted children, been through some kind of trauma, or are dealing with PDA (Pervasive Demand Avoidance).
Although Kelly is a new friend, I know from all the families I have worked with that also work with her that she 100% gets it!!
Many people get hung up on academics, but Kelly understands that the most important thing is learning to feel comfortable in our own skin!!
I am super excited to hear her talk about When Learning Feels Impossible: Start with Safety! This is something so many parents need to hear!!

Today I am announcing a special speaker: Dr. Melanie Joy! Melanie Joy Holistic is an Integrative Functional Medicine professional, and she is one of the rare professionals that can say she changed my life!
Melanie taught me how to cook all over again when the kids and I started having Mast Cell reactions that were out of control. She also helped me determine which foods and even which brands were triggering reactions!
Melanie was also the first person to make the connection between my physiological health problems and my stress, anxiety, and buried griefs!
Part of who I am today both personally and professionally is thanks to Melanie's guidance in those early days!
If people don't understand why you are sick and no one seems to be able to help you, join us for Melanie's talk! Not only does she have incredible instincts, but she also approaches all she does with compassion because she has been there too!

It's another day and another day to announce a speaker at the conference!! Today I want to introduce you to Malia Waller!!
Malia is a Special Education Teacher who is going to share with us how we can better understand our learners so we can change how we present educational material!
Understanding the child in front of you makes ALL the difference -- no matter what you are trying to accomplish!
Some of the biggest problems we see occur because of dehumanization. Taking the time to understand the child sitting in front of us humanizes them and changes how we choose to interact with them!
If you haven't signed up yet, sign up TODAY!!!

I am super excited to announce yet ANOTHER Speech Language Pathologist that we will have at our conference: Dinalynn Rosenbush of The Language Of Play!!
Dinalynn will be speaking about how we can use play to build communication skills, and I can't think of a more important topic than that!!
I didn't know how to do this when my kids were little. It didn't come naturally to me at all. So I learned by watching our Speech Language Pathologist when my kids were in therapy!
There are SO many things we can do to support communication at home!! And Dinalynn will also be speaking about Using Literature To Build Vocabulary, Sentence Structures & Sounds! So there will be something for all stages of language development!!
