Helping Outside Animals Rescue
A foster-based non profit 501 (c)(3) animal rescue in CT run by volunteers with F/T jobs. We work with several reputable rescues.
We feed, trap, transport, foster, and provide medical care for abandoned cats, then get them into safe/loving homes. We work with authorities on enforcing the law pertaining to dogs who are being forced to live outdoors without adequate shelter, food and/or water. We also work on getting help for stray cats and/or TNR.

If you have found and rescued kittens, you may be wondering how to catch the mom cat. π€ It is so important to make that effort!
Please don't just scoop up the kittens and move on. π« Leaving the mother cat behind often means she will face the exact same situation again in just a few short months, producing another litter and continuing the cycle.
If kittens are around, there's a very good chance mom is nearby, even if you haven't seen her. It is actually uncommon for an entire litter of kittens to be abandoned.
So how do you find herβ
Place the kittens in a carrier or trap at the location where they were found. Then set a baited trap in front of the carrier and cover both with a sheet or blanket to create a little "tunnel" leading straight to her babies.
And here's the important partβgo away. π
Mama cat is much less likely to return if a scary human is standing nearby watching. Let the kittens and the trap do the work for you. If possible, go inside and monitor from a window. If you're in a public location, park nearby where you can still keep an eye on the trap from your vehicle.
Good luck and happy trapping! πΎ
Edit for clarification: Going away does not mean leaving the trap unattended. Never leave a trap unattended. It simply means not standing right next to it expecting mom to walk in while you're watching. Monitor from a window, your vehicle, or another location where you can observe the trap without being seen.

She Was Left Behind. Now She Has Three Kittens and No Safety Net.
π¨ Rescue & Pledges Needed β Branford, CT π¨
A concerned feeder in a local trailer park has been caring for a small group of cats since last fall and is reaching out for help before the situation grows.
π A little background β a black and white tuxedo female was spotted on the property and a kind tenant began feeding her daily. It was initially thought she may have been a TNR release due to what appeared to be a tipped ear, but her ear was actually injured β likely in a fight β and she was not spayed. She now has three kittens, approximately 3 months old. A feral male is also roaming the property, making additional litters a very real concern.
The feeder provides food and water every single day and is genuinely worried about their safety β they haven't been seen in a couple of days. π
Here's what we know about the Front Porch Five:
π± Mom β black and white tuxedo female, possibly a previous tenant's abandoned pet, not yet spayed
π± Kitten #1 β black
π± Kitten #2 β black and gray tiger
π± Kitten #3 β gray with various color markings
π± Feral male β gray and white, unneutered
About the cats:
Mom and kittens are fearful and cannot be approached. It is unknown whether mom was previously owned or fully feral. The kittens are approximately 3 months old and not yet old enough to be fixed.
These cats need:
πͺ€ Trapping assistance
π Spay/neuter for mom and the feral male β pledges welcome!
π Foster or rescue placement for the three kittens when ready
π’ Shares β the right help is out there
π Please note: Our rescue is currently closed for intakes due to several TNR projects.
π’ IMPORTANT: We do not have the manpower to monitor comments. If you have any questions regarding this post, please message us directly. πΎ

π¨ Rescue & Pledges Needed β New Haven, CT π¨
We've been contacted about a small colony in need of urgent TNR support, vetting, and rescue placement for kittens. This feeder is doing their best alone and needs our help.
π A special mention before we get to the full colony β meet Sunny. This sweet orange tabby boy, estimated at 8+ years old, was once someone's beloved pet. His elderly owner passed away in April, her family was evicted, and he was left behind to fend for himself outside. He is friendly to people and deserves so much better than the hand he's been dealt. If anyone can help Sunny specifically, please reach out.
Here's what we know about the full colony:
π± Sunny β orange tabby male, 8+ years old, friendly, previously owned, left behind after owner passed away
π± Frost β white male, older, friendly, has been in the area for 3 years, two small grey stripes on his head
π± 4+ female moms β all young, some under a year old
π± Several kittens in need of rescue or vetting when of age
π± Additional males β descriptions unknown at this time
Color descriptions of the females:
π€ Some all black
π€π€ Some black and white
About the New Haven Crew:
The moms are fearful of strangers but not feral β they are friendly to their feeder. Sunny and Frost are both friendly to people. Several males in the feeder's apartment colony have previously been fixed through GHNCP.
These cats need:
π TNR support for the females
π Rescue placement for kittens
π° Pledges toward vetting costs
π’ Shares β every one helps
π Please note: Our rescue is currently closed for intakes due to several TNR projects.
π’ IMPORTANT: We do not have the manpower to monitor comments. If you have any questions regarding this post, please message us directly. πΎ
