This pedestal bowl is a little departure from my normal work, but I believe we are inspired by the world around us, and it is up to each and everyone of us to gather up what may seem like broken parts of our lives and always try to make something beautiful, better.

This piece was made by piecing together fragments of clay with a mix of colors and textures - pretty useless on their own. But when they are blended together they make a beautiful whole.

Is it a metaphor for what I’d like to see in this fractured world today? Absolutely! While we may seem powerless to do anything on our own, if we come together, we are stronger, more effective and more beautiful.

Happiness

Happiness is like a crystal,
Fair and exquisite and clear,
Broken in a million pieces,
Shattered, scattered far and near.
Now and then along life’s pathway,
Lo! some shining fragments fall;
But there are so many pieces
No one ever finds them all.

You may find a bit of beauty,
Or an honest share of wealth,
While another just beside you
Gathers honor, love or health.
Vain to choose or grasp unduly,
Broken is the perfect ball;
And there are so many pieces
No one ever finds them all.
Yet the wise as on they journey
Treasure every fragment clear,
Fit them as they may together,
Imaging the shattered sphere,
Learning ever to be thankful,
Though their share of it is small;
For it has so many pieces
No one ever finds them all.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted any new work, while I’ve been building up the shop at ! But rest assured I’ve still been making pottery - it’s my true happy place after all! ☺️

This crackly textured vase ended up being so much prettier than I was expecting!

♥️ When the world feels bleak, be the heart that keeps its light ♥️

When I first made this heart bowl, I didn’t love it because the glaze came out too dull, bleak and dreary. But as I have been sitting with it for some time against the backdrop of what is happening in our country, I have grown to love what it symbolizes.

♥️ Hope in times of despair ♥️

♥️ Holding on to your own heart/love/goodness in the midst of evil ♥️

♥️ Light shining through against a backdrop of darkness ♥️
