E-bikes are a convenient, affordable, and environmentally friendly way to get around. But as their popularity grows, so does the importance of battery safety.
Most e-bike fires are linked to damaged, modified, counterfeit, or improperly charged lithium-ion batteries. To reduce risk:
• Use the manufacturer-approved charger
• Avoid charging overnight or unattended
• Keep batteries away from extreme heat
• Replace damaged batteries immediately
• Purchase batteries and e-bikes from reputable manufacturers
E-bike fires are preventable. Safe charging and proper battery care help protect riders, families, and communities while allowing everyone to enjoy the benefits of e-bike transportation.

Engine 2 arrived on scene with a report of a single vehicle accident with an active gas leak.
A single vehicle had struck a utility pole causing heavy damage to the pole. Adjacent to the utility pole was a post with natural gas monitoring equipment for a high-pressure gas service line. This equipment was damaged from the accident and an active gas leak occurred.
The occupant of the vehicle was moved to a safe distance from the leak, checked for injuries and was not transported for treatment. 12 nearby homes were evacuated, effecting approximately 30 people. A hose line was set up to help disperse the natural gas issuing from the leak. All homes in the area were continuously monitored to confirm no gas was building up inside.
Eversource arrived on scene and shut the power down to the area, effecting 78 homes. Liberty Utilities arrived on scene and worked on shutting off the leak. A special thank you to Firefighter Jake Rivello for presenting the Amherst Street Station with a beautiful new kitchen table.
Jake is also the owner of Rivello Heritage Works, where he crafts custom furniture from reclaimed and historic materials. This one-of-a-kind table was built from reclaimed bowling alley wood, giving new life to a piece of history while creating a gathering place for our firefighters.
The kitchen table is more than just furniture in a fire station—it's where crews share meals, train, build camaraderie, and prepare for the next call. We are grateful for Jake's craftsmanship, generosity, and dedication to making our station feel even more like home.
Thank you, Jake, for your outstanding work and for supporting your fellow firefighters!

🚒 A Ride to Remember! 🚒
This morning, Nashua Fire Rescue had the honor of providing a special ride to school for Eli, a student at St. Christopher School, who was the winning bidder of a “Ride to School in a Fire Truck” from the Nashua Lions Club Green Auction this past March.
Eli arrived at school in style aboard one of our fire apparatus and was greeted by excited classmates and staff.
We would like to thank the Nashua Lions Club for their continued support of our community and congratulate Eli on winning this unique experience. A special shout-out also goes to Eli’s dad, retired Nashua Police Department Captain Tom Bolton, whose years of dedicated service helped keep our community safe.
We hope Eli had a great start to his day and made memories that will last a lifetime!

🚒⚡ Keeping a 140-Year Tradition Alive ⚡🚒
Nashua Fire Rescue Assistant Superintendent Kyle Ball is pictured working from the department’s bucket truck while troubleshooting an open circuit on the City’s Municipal Fire Alarm System, off of Northeastern Blvd this past week.
Nashua’s municipal fire alarm system has been serving our community for more than 140 years and remains a critical piece of our emergency communications infrastructure. The system operates on a 100 milliamp fire alarm circuit, a constant-current electrical circuit designed to monitor the integrity of the fire alarm network. If a wire is damaged, disconnected, or otherwise interrupted, technicians can quickly identify and locate the problem to ensure the system remains operational.
Our Fire Alarm Division is responsible for maintaining an impressive network that includes:
🔹 More than 140 miles of wire throughout the city
🔹 234 street fire alarm boxes
🔹 More than 655 total fire alarm boxes and devices
🔹 21 dedicated circuits that connect our Fire Alarm Building to individual box circuits across Nashua
Maintaining this historic yet still highly reliable system requires specialized knowledge, dedication, and regular maintenance. Whether responding to service calls, repairing storm damage, or performing routine inspections, our Fire Alarm Division works behind the scenes every day to ensure this vital infrastructure is ready when needed.
Thank you to Assistant Superintendent Ball and the members of our Fire Alarm Division for preserving a system that has protected Nashua residents for generations.

A little Ladder Company training today!
Ladder truck training in our older sections of the city with closely spaced buildings is especially important.
Some of the issues our Ladder Companies need to prepare for are :
Limited access and maneuvering space: Narrow streets, parked vehicles, utility lines, and adjacent structures can make positioning a ladder truck challenging.
Rapid fire spread: Buildings that are close together increase the risk of fire extending from one structure to another, requiring quick and precise ladder operations.
Rescue operations at height: Multi-story buildings often require aerial ladders for occupant rescue, ventilation, and firefighter access.
Complex aerial placement: Operators must learn to place ladders safely while accounting for nearby buildings, obstacles, and restricted setup areas.
Coordination with other units: Fires in these buildings typically involve multiple apparatus operating in confined spaces, making communication and teamwork critical.
Emergency egress: Aerial ladders can provide alternate escape routes for both occupants and firefighters when interior exits are compromised.
Training in realistic conditions helps crews develop the skills, judgment, and familiarity needed to operate safely and effectively during actual emergencies.
