Rabihah Ruby Shabazz

Spotlight on Ruby Shabazz!

Ruby Shabazz is considered an exceptional singer because of her rich, nostalgic sound that perfectly blends 90s-style contemporary R&B, hip-hop, and neo-soul. Often hailed by New Hampshire Magazine as New Hampshire's "Queen of R&B and Hip Hop," she has gained widespread acclaim across New England for her expressive vocal delivery and deep emotional vulnerability.

Her vocal prowess is shaped by a unique combination of musical training, legendary influences, and raw storytelling:

Strong Technical Foundation & Study of the Greats
• Formal Voice Training: She began singing as a child and heavily refined her vocal range, dynamics, and pitch control by participating in choir and chorus during high school.
• Studying Vocal Masters: To establish her delivery, Shabazz intentionally studied the distinct melodies and cadences of early jazz icons like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Etta James.
• Classic R&B Roots: Her foundational sound was built on listening to her parents' Motown vinyl collections, emulating legends like Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Sade, and Whitney Houston.

Raw Emotional Vulnerability and Depth
• Authentic Songwriting: Critics and fans connect deeply with her vocal delivery because she sings about real-world themes, such as loss, grief, acceptance, and mental health awareness. Much of her soulful music is written in moving tribute to her late father.
• "Throwback" Sonic Identity: Music critics compare her vocal texture to an updated version of Lauryn Hill because she seamlessly injects pure, gritty hip-hop cadences into smooth neo-soul melodies.

Industry Recognition and Live Ex*****on
Her talent isn't just studio magic; her powerful live performances alongside her band, The Evolutionists, have made her a staple at major New England stages and cultural festivals. Her vocal excellence is verified by her peers in the industry, highlighted by her historic back-to-back wins for Soul/R&B Artist of the Year at The New England Music Awards
