Ten years ago today, 49 people walked into Pulse Nightclub looking for joy, friendship, music, and a place where they could simply be themselves. They never came home.

We speak their names. We honor the survivors. And we refuse to let the world forget.

We honor the 49 not only with words but with our actions. Here in our own community, that means defending visibility, creating safe spaces, and refusing to let hate win. Every Pride celebration, every rainbow flag, every voice raised against hate, and every person who finds the courage to live authentically is an act of remembrance.

We will not accept a world where LGBTQ+ people are asked to hide, shrink, or apologize for existing. We will keep fighting for a community and a future where every person is welcomed, valued, protected, and free to be exactly who they are.

That is how we honor the Pulse victims. Not only with a day of remembrance but with a lifetime of action.

Because as long as we keep showing up, loving boldly, and refusing to back down, their light will never be painted over, and their legacy will never be erased.

It’s with a heavy heart that we acknowledge the passing of John Tanzella, the esteemed President and CEO of IGLTA. His leadership and vision were pivotal in advocating for LGBTQ+ travel and promoting inclusivity within the tourism industry.

John was not just a figurehead; he was a true champion for equality, tirelessly working to create a more welcoming world for travelers of all backgrounds. Notably, he attended the opening of the Naples Pride Center in 2020, demonstrating his commitment to fostering connections and embracing diversity in every community.

This loss is felt deeply by many, and we extend our condolences to his family, friends, and the entire IGLTA community. John’s legacy will continue to inspire us all to strive for a more inclusive tourism landscape. Thank you, John, for everything you’ve done. You will be greatly missed.
