In November 1987, a teenage couple looking for a make-out spot along Route 40 in Delaware suddenly stumbled upon a horrifying sight: the brutalized co**se of a 23-year-old former s*x worker named Shirley Ellis. She had been bound, gagged, and tortured, then beaten to death with a hammer. About seven months later, construction workers found the body of s*x worker Catherine DiMauro at a work site nearby. She had also been tortured and beaten with a hammer — and authorities quickly realized they were dealing with the very first serial killer in Delaware history.

Several months and three more victims later, investigators finally captured this unhinged predator, who turned out to be a mild-mannered married man with two kids named Steven Brian Pennell. But though he may have seemed like a "normal" guy, the details of his crimes proved that he was anything but. This electrician-turned-serial killer kept a horrifying "torture kit" in his work van, including pliers, whips, handcuffs, needles, and knives that he used on his victims — before finishing them off by beating their heads in with his hammer.

A routine traffic stop took an unexpected turn when officers discovered a missing 16-year-old girl inside a vehicle driven by a 37-year-old man.

According to police, the driver was pulled over for speeding during a late-night stop. While speaking with the occupants, officers identified a teenage girl who had been reported missing. Investigators say the discovery immediately shifted the focus of the stop from a traffic violation to a missing-person case.

Authorities detained the man as they worked to determine the nature of his relationship with the teenager and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. The girl was safely recovered and later reunited with her family.

Police praised the officers involved, noting that what began as a routine enforcement action ended with the safe recovery of a missing child. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities review evidence and consider additional charges.

Man Who Lured 6-Year-Old from Sleepover Before Murder Is Executed Despite Mental Illness

A Missouri death row inmate was executed despite his attorneys' attempts to contest capital punishment on the grounds of his mental illness.

On Tuesday evening, convicted killer Johnny A. Johnson, 45, died by lethal injection at the state prison in Bonne Terre, according to the Associated Press, the Kansas City Star and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Johnson was convicted of the 2002 murder and attempted r**e of 6-year-old Cassandra "Casey" Williamson in St. Louis County, PEOPLE previously reported, citing court records.

In a statement Monday, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson called Johnson’s crime “one of the most horrific murders that has come across my desk.”

“Casey was an innocent young girl who bravely fought Johnson until he took her life,” he wrote. “My office has received countless letters in the last few weeks seeking justice for Casey. Although this won’t bring her back, we hope that carrying out Johnson’s sentence according to the Court’s order may provide some closure for Casey’s loved ones.”

In 2005, a jury found Johnson guilty of numerous offenses, including first-degree murder, armed criminal action, kidnapping and attempted forcible r**e. He was sentenced to death.

Queens Landlord Gets LIFE With No Parole After Stabbing 3 People Including His Own Girlfriend.

He was a landlord. A boyfriend. A neighbor.

And in one bloody November morning… he became a triple killer.

David Daniel, 56, from St. Albans, Queens woke up on November 14, 2023, walked downstairs, and stabbed his two tenants, Evette Sweeney and Wayne Thomas, to death in the basement. Then he went upstairs… and killed his girlfriend of five years, Coleen Caesar Fields, in her bed.

His reason? The tenants weren't paying rent. And he believed Coleen was about to leave him.

Then, he walked calmly into the 113th Precinct and told a lieutenant he'd done "a horrible thing." Just like that.

He rejected a 33-years-to-life plea deal and took it to trial. Big mistake.

The jury convicted him on ALL counts.

And on June 9, 2026 Judge Kenneth Holder looked him dead in the eyes and said… "I'm sure there's a special place in hell for someone like you."

Gwendolyn Rolle, a 59-year-old pastor from Fort Pierce, Florida, was arrested and charged with five counts of child neglect after police discovered five siblings between the ages of 4 and 9 living in deplorable conditions under her roof. Rolle was not even a licensed foster parent.

According to the arrest warrant the children were regularly sent to bed hungry while Rolle's biological daughter ate KFC and Popeyes in front of them. The home had one working bathroom which Rolle kept locked. The children had to use a bucket as a toilet and bathe outside on the front patio with a garden hose while taking turns holding up a bedsheet for privacy.

The neglect followed the kids to school where they were bullied for wearing dirty clothes and smelling bad. One girl told investigators she relied on school staff giving her perfume to mask the odor so other kids wouldn't bully her.

An anonymous tipster called it in on June 2 but admitted they had been afraid to speak out because of Rolle's position as a pastor. Rolle posted bond and was released. She denied all neglect allegations.
