“How far has the Lord taken our sins from us? Farther than the distance from east to west!” (Psalm 103:12, CEV)
Am I forgiven?
After Jesus rose from the dead he instructed his disciples to proclaim the forgiveness of sins to the whole world, beginning in Jerusalem. To forgive means to send away, which is what the Lamb of God did when he went to the cross. He carried our sins and bore them away. Forgiveness is not something God does; it’s something he’s done. Past tense.
Finished. Complete. Job done.
The apostles travelled the world proclaiming the forgiveness of sins. They encouraged people to receive the forgiveness provided by Jesus.
“Little children,” said John, “I write to you because your sins are forgiven.”
“My friends,” said Paul in Asia Minor, “I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.”
However, some people didn’t like this message of free forgiveness, and they drove Paul out of town. Even today there are those who say only some of your sins are forgiven. “God has forgiven your past sins, but your current and future sins demand payment.”
But if the blood of Jesus did not pay for all your sins, what will? Forgiveness is not something you earn through acts of piety or penance. Nor is it a debit card to draw upon as though God’s grace was locked away.
The forgiveness Jesus spoke of is a gift to receive and in Christ you have it.

You are tired of fighting. Tired of making promises to yourself. Tired of having a good week only to stumble again. Tired of praying the same prayers, battling the same temptations, and wondering why change feels so much harder than you thought it would. You love Jesus. You genuinely want to honor Him. Yet there are moments when you feel trapped in a cycle of trying harder, failing, and starting over.

The hardest part is not always the struggle itself. Sometimes it is the disappointment you feel afterward. You begin questioning your faith, your sincerity, and even your relationship with God. You wonder why something you hate still seems to have a pull on you. The more you focus on stopping sin, the more it seems to occupy your thoughts.

Many believers spend years trying to overcome sin by staring directly at it. They monitor it, study it, fear it, and obsess over it. Every day becomes a battle against behavior. Every failure becomes proof that they need more discipline. Yet the harder they try, the more exhausted they become because the Christian life was never meant to be lived through self-effort.

The Gospel offers something far better than behavior modification. It offers transformation through relationship. Second Corinthians 3:18 says that as we behold the glory of the Lord, we are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. Notice where the focus is. Not on the sin. Not on the struggle. On Jesus.

The enemy wants you focused on your weakness because weakness keeps your attention on yourself. The Holy Spirit wants you focused on Christ because Christ changes people from the inside out. The more you become conscious of your failures, the more defeated you feel. The more you become conscious of His love, His grace, and His finished work, the more freedom begins to grow naturally.

This is why Romans 6:14 makes such a powerful declaration: “For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.” Many people assume grace causes people to sin more. Scripture says the opposite. Grace breaks sin’s dominion. Grace reminds you that your identity is no longer rooted in your failures. Grace teaches your heart that you belong to God.

The struggle often becomes lighter when you stop asking, “How do I stop sinning?” and start asking, “Who am I because of Jesus?” Colossians 3:3 says, “For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” God is not asking you to become a new person through effort. He is inviting you to discover the new person He already made you in Christ.

Think about a fruit tree. It does not strain to produce fruit. It does not wake up every morning trying harder to be an apple tree. Fruit appears naturally because of what the tree already is. In the same way, lasting change flows from identity. When you begin believing what God says about you, your life starts reflecting that reality.

This does not mean temptation disappears overnight. It does not mean growth happens instantly. But it does mean that your hope is no longer found in your willpower. Philippians 2:13 says that it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. The very desire you have to change is evidence that He is already at work within you.

Too many believers are trying to achieve through striving what God wants to produce through abiding. Jesus said in John 15:5, “Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit.” Fruit is the result of connection, not pressure. The branch does not force itself to grow. It remains connected to the vine.

The beautiful truth is that Jesus is not disappointed because you are still growing. He knew every struggle you would face before He ever called you His own. His love was never based on your ability to become perfect overnight. The Father is not standing over you with frustration. He is leading you with grace. Every day He is reminding you of who you are, not who you used to be.

So if you are exhausted from trying to stop sinning, lift your eyes from the struggle and look at the Savior. The answer is not found in carrying more pressure. The answer is found in seeing more of Jesus. As you discover how loved you are, how accepted you are, and how complete you are in Him, you will find something remarkable happening. The things you once fought through striving begin losing their grip through grace. Not because you became stronger, but because you became more aware of the One who already lives within you.

Religion says:
“Do more so God accepts you.”

Jesus said:
“It is finished.”

You don’t need Jesus + performance.
Jesus is enough.

The gospel was never about self-effort.
It was always about dependence on Him.

This world teaches pressure, striving, and burnout.
The Kingdom teaches rest, grace, and identity.

I refuse to be driven by guilt.
I choose to be led by love.

We are Forever Free.

IT’S JACKHAMMER TIME!
June 3

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” (Ephesians 2:8)

The greatest manifestation of God’s power came when you were born again! By nature, you were a child of the devil. He had legal rights and claims to you. As a citizen of the kingdom of darkness, the enemy legitimately dominated your life. At the time of your salvation, you hadn’t been fasting, praying, studying the Word, attending church, paying tithes, or living a holy life. Yet without any such effort, you received the greatest miracle of all! It happened because you believed it was already done. How could you doubt that God would do what He had already done?

The gospel is good news (what He’s done), not “good prophecy” (what He’s going to do)! “News” in a newspaper has taken place in the past. T he good “news” of the gospel is that God has already forgiven you. Why would you choose to go to hell with your sins forgiven? Why not take advantage of the Lord’s generous provision? You just need to understand that He’s already done His part! The question isn’t, “Will God save you?” but “Will you accept His salvation?” The gift has been given, but will you receive it?

It’s the same with everything else in the Christian life! God has already healed, prospered, and delivered you. Yet most people beg and plead, attempting to manipulate and control God through prayer. Their underlying attitude is “How do I make God do something He’s unwilling to do?” That’s totally wrong! Prayer is not trying to twist God’s arm to make Him do something. Prayer is receiving by faith what He has already done!

Before Jesus taught what prayer is, He revealed what it’s not. Let’s take a jackhammer to our faulty foundations and throw them out; they’re only hindering us!
