🔥 Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Safety Reminder 🔥
Earlier today, crews responded to a garage fire that started when several lithium-ion batteries were charging inside the garage. The batteries—used for items such as a w**d eater, lawn mower, and drills—were charging on wooden cabinets when the fire began.
Thanks to quick-thinking Good Samaritans who used a garden hose to extinguish the fire before crews arrived, the fire was contained to the garage. There was minor smoke inside the home and heat/smoke damage to a vehicle parked in the garage. Firefighters cooled remaining hot spots and confirmed the fire was fully extinguished. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
⚠️ Lithium-Ion Battery Safety Tips:
🔋 Charge batteries on a hard, non-combustible surface such as concrete.
🔋 Keep batteries away from combustible materials, including wood, paper, cardboard, and fuels.
🔋 Use only the manufacturer’s approved battery and charger.
🔋 Avoid charging batteries overnight or when no one is home.
🔋 Never use batteries that are damaged, swollen, cracked, or overheating.
🔋 Store batteries in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
🔋 If a battery begins smoking, hissing, or overheating, move away and call 911 if it is safe to do so.
Lithium-ion batteries power many of the tools and devices we use every day, but when damaged, improperly charged, or left unattended, they can pose a significant fire risk. Taking a few simple precautions can help keep your home and family safe. 🚒🏠🔥

Drowning isn’t like the movies. It’s fast, and it’s silent, happening in the moments when we might least expect it.
This is a stark reminder that vigilance near water is non-negotiable. Whether it’s a pool, a bathtub or the beach, always keep a watchful eye on loved ones, especially children.
Let’s spread awareness and take action to prevent these quiet tragedies.

Thank you to the Collier County Public Library Estates Branch Library for inviting us to their Summer Reading Kickoff! 📚🚒
The Engine 71 crew had a blast showing kids the fire engine, our gear, and even spraying a little water from the hose. We’re proud to support programs that help foster a love of reading and learning in our community.

’s newest is set to open to traffic on Friday, June 12 at or after 10 a.m. The seven-mile Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension Project Phase 1 (Collier Boulevard to 16th Street NE) is one of the biggest Collier County has undertaken.
The new extension will help relieve congestion on other arterial roadways and reduce response times for emergency service providers.
Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension Phase Two, which is being planned to extend the roadway another two miles from 16th Street NE to Everglades Blvd., is in the final stages of design and may start construction toward the beginning of next year.
The county’s contractor will be completing punch list items over the next few weeks. A brief ribbon cutting ceremony is being planned for July 1. Additional information about that event will be released as soon as details have been determined.
More information on Collier County Transportation Engineering projects is available at www.collier.gov/transportationprojects.

🐾 A Tiny Rescue with a Big Happy Ending! 🐾
Late last week, the crew at Station 70 came to the aid of one of our smallest residents—a tiny kitten weighing only about a pound that had taken refuge under the passenger-side rear wheel of a vehicle.
With plenty of patience and a gentle touch, firefighters safely rescued the little furball, who was completely unharmed. The kitten was then adopted by a detective with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, who arranged a same-day veterinary visit to make sure their new furry friend was in purr-fect health.
We’re feline pretty good about this one! 😸 What could have been a cat-astrophe turned into a paws-itively wonderful outcome.
At Greater Naples Fire Rescue, we’re always ready to serve and protect—even when the call comes from our tiniest residents.
